Hi folks,

My humble hello. We all have our stories I guess, and we're all reaching for help so I figure that's why we're all here. For four months now I've felt a bit like scrambled eggs. We were evacuated from one of the largest natural disasters in Canadian history ( youtube the Fort McMurray Wildfire ). Now I'm back, my family is back, my wife is doing fine, my 2 year old is the joy of my life, but I feel like... all scrambled up.

Currently taking 20mg cipralex and counselling once a week. Having good days and bad days. Major avoidance, minor agoraphobia, lots of hypervigilince. Major survivor guilt.

My therapists suggested this place, so here I am.

Cheers

Hi folks,

Welcome to the forum! I think it's a great step to take and I hope you find a lot of good help and support here. Sorry you are going through a hard time, I like the scrambled egg similie I might use that myself from now on. It's also great you have your family, I think you are being very brave for them reaching out and I think that is admirable :)

Welcome ! I understand surviving a natural disaster. Mine was Hurricane Rita. Your life is changed forever. So much to process and we never see things the same afterward. I do understand.
Very happy you are here and you will receive a lot of comfort and support here. You are not alone!

Welcome, Tupong! As a former Edmontonian, I couldn't tear myself away from the news about Fort Mac. The images were terrifying!

I can understand developing PTSD after that trauma. Please forgive me for the bluntness of this question, but why are you suffering survivor's guilt? There was only one casualty, and that was a ttraffic collision during the evacuation, was it not? I'm just wondering if I'm missing part of the picture.

This is the perfect place for you, btw. There's a wealth of information and knowledge here, and the most supportive and caring people I've ever known, all journeying together on the healing path.

It isn't, I guess, technically "survivors guilt". Just I have so many close friends who lost everything. We were fairly unscathed (our house needed a new roof, that's about it). I feel like we were unfairly spared while my friends suffer a total loss. It is weird.

@Tupong128. Oh, that makes sense. It probably is survivor's guilt. My adhd brain takes things too literally. I was afraid you may have been involved in the fatality.

Regardless, I'm glad you and your family are ok physically, at least, and I'm glad you found us.
