I don't have high enough rating on this site to post website links but here are the names of some organizations. you will have to google them.
1) OPERATIONWEAREHERE
This is a website that has HUNDREDS of organizations that focus on rec therapies for Active Duty and Vets or their families. They even have a section just for equestrian and horse riding.
2) WARRIORBUILT
The mission of “Warrior Built” seeks to honor the service and sacrifice of combat veterans and wounded service members who served our country by providing vocational and recreational opportunities. Vocational and recreational opportunities break through walls and foster an environment of healing, where great memories are born and new support systems are formed.
  • “Built” by combat veterans for combat veterans
  • “Built” on our core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment
  • “Built” with the unrelenting drive to make a difference
  • “Built” remembering the Warrior Ethos we learned serving our country
3) ASMBASTAR
This is a foundation that donates grants to organizations that support and help our nation's vets. They don't directly do anything with the vets but this link shows you who they support throughout the nation who DO take care of our vets.
I hope this helps.

Welcome Brother!
After a period of trying to go it alone after the VA has labeled me as "stable" and asked me to quit coming for mental health counseling because other Warfighters need the spot and "they have done all they can do".

There they go again, *stable*, assholes! If they can't create a new acronym for your issues, the VA will hit you with a *one word* diagnosis. You're on the right track and you are NOT ALONE!!! Can I assume that the *mental health counseling* you refer to was of the VAMC type and not a Vet Center?

The Vet Center offers a whole host of counseling and activities. Us old Nam shit's do well with group therapy but I find the younger Warfighters like to go it alone. Now, we Ol' Nam Farts know something about going it alone - trust me, it can and will be hazardous to your health. After 40+ years of teaching the Beast how to swim in the booze I was consuming I needed the life preserver. There are a ton of resources out there that will keep you on top of onslaught of crap that goes along with our disability. This site is a great source of reality checks and dumping ground when it's necessary. A lot of younger Vets are not into the VVA or VFW thing but they a real source of support and camaraderie. I stay active with a VVA chapter and a couple of times a month we're up at the VA hospital PTSD Treatment Center. Bring a little food, a little laughter, talk a bit with the patients. They think we're there for THEM (we know better) what ever they get out of it - we get twofold.

You hang tough brother - we got you back.

but I've just realized that it is time to try something different

My Brother, that's true today, and will be for the rest of your life. You'll change a little every day. So, adjusting to the beast is like hitting a moving target. It won't be in the same place tomorrow. Keep trying, and include things that didn't work in the past. They can make a difference in the future.

its time for the "young bloods" to have the spots in these programs

There are no young bloods, old bloods or middle bloods. The beast doesn't age. I just finished a three month run at the local Vet. Center cause things stacked up again. And, I got home late in 1967.

Mate, the short answer is you may have been here for two and a half years, but have only posted 25 times. The big man says if you keep making posts you will hit the mark before you know it. Just keep trying to post links every five posts you make. It's put there for our safety, so we don't get clowns, trolls and total wankers posting a few times then filling our forum with crap.
