Hello, I'm 19 and I'm from the UK.
I found out I had PTSD only a couple of months ago after having been in therapy for 5 years (with different sorts of therapists, CBT, Hypnotherapy and Psycotherapy), but I've had it for 14 years without knowing. The reason I have it is because of the initial treatment I had when diagnosed with diabetes aged 4. This may seem a very, very unlikely cause of it but I know it's the case as I come from a very stable, loving home, with no other possible causes in my knowledge.
I joined this forum because I need a place to say my feelings as I have severe anxiety. I have read other posts on this site but I have found no one who has a case very similar to mine (although I seem to relate to most anyway).
It feels bad because I know that people go through horrific things to be left with PTSD, and when written down, my case looks weak.
I feel alone and confused with this and I wondered if anyone knew where I was coming from.

Yes I can fully understand. I used to worry about someone who, like yourself, was brought up in a loving none abusive family, but had an on going medical condition. They really did fear for their life, as I did for them....certainly on a monthly basis. Welcome to the forums! I am sure you will find support.

Welcome to the forum @Kupo_Nut :)

Although I come from a dysfunctional family, they was no physical, sexual or intentional emotional abuse.

My PTSD initially came from years of medical 'treatment' and the lack of emotional support surrounding it.

I may not know all that you're going through but I'm glad you're here.

This very much confused me, but I can partially relate.

I have a friend who had leukemia at age 7 and was treated, but is constantly of fear of the sickness returning, lately he was away for 3 weeks without warning and I was afraid of whats up with him... Since he got back he changed significantly. To me your story is confusing... But welcome to forums! I hope you find some understanding.

@Kupo_Nut :hug: Welcome to the forum! Medical trauma, especially at a young age, can deeply impact and traumatize someone. I'm sorry for what you have been through. I'm glad you are reaching out here for support on the forum.

I understand. When I was younger I experienced a depression induced psychosis. Now, besides the dissociation that comes with flashbacks I am always in touch with reality thanks to being hospitalized just in time. Though, thinking about it still haunts me, scares me. That was very foreign and frightening and I know why you feel this way.

Please don't feel weak! I have read a number of stories about people who have PTSD due to medical trauma. And, the truth is that trauma to a developing mind can be a LOT worse than the same trauma to a fully developed mind. Once I learned this, I stopped feeling that my trauma was "less than" everyone else's.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Thank you for saying so, I suppose I was only young and it was terrifying for me, it's good to know that there are people who understand.

@Kupo_Nut Welcome to the forum!

Medical treatment can be traumatic and especially to your children who really cannot grasp what is happening. Here we do not judge trauma and we are all working to heal from the impact it has on our lives. I hope you find this site helpful to your own healing.
