ABC Geography

Fugging (formerly f*cking), Austria

Town members are called f*ckingers. They changed the name in 2021 to reduce theft of signs and perpetual ridicule. It was founded by a nobleman named Focko about 1000 years ago, the “o” was pronounced like “oo” in “book”. The name meant “people of Focko” and changed spellings many times over the centuries, with the pre-2021 spelling decided in the 18th century.
