I'm very live-and-let-live, yet this is a case I'd suggest find a bouncer, definitely. Or at least alert a bartender.

What I've found that works for me is to motion them close to me like I'm going to tell them a secret, I put my hand on the back of their neck and say very softly "get the f*ck away from me. Don't talk to me or even look at me, if you do I will beat your face until your brains stain the concrete. This is your only warning so f*ck off and have a nice day." So far it has given the desired result without escalating to violence. I'm a pretty big guy so that may have something to do with the effectiveness of this tactic, just thought I would share what works for me.
