Last Paragraph First : Don't worry,.. The longer your kid survives the more inured you will get to tales of childhood tragedy hitting you in the feels in a way they never hit you before you were a parent. Also blood, screaming, head bonks on hard surfaces, fevers, and tears. :D There's a lot of all of those in your future, and the first round of them is icewater for blood and racking sobs terrifying. No one believes they don't understand parental-fears -and wont- until they have kids... Until they have kids. Most of this, maybe 90%, are actual parental fears gutting you. The other 10% is the cognitive dissonance as "I thought I understood" is getting rapidly replaced with OMFG  I didn't understand. It's very very normal. The world just became a place that can eat your kid. And you're also still probably in the process of deciding/realizing that you'd walk out into traffic to prevent that. It's a major mindf*ck, as everything you thought you knew... Changes.
