Anyone familiar with this drug? It's actually an anti-viral and commonly used in Parkinson's treatment. Some info says used in TBI, a few minuscule article say depression and mood(has a dopamine effect) A few others say ADHD....

My psychiatrist prescribed it because I've got issues with ADHD, depression, some executive functioning issues, recal, memory, etc. I'm not a candidate for ssris and other meds for depression and anxiety. No Wellbutrin, Effexor, Cymbalta, no stimulants. Failed a few antipsychotic....tolerating a minuscule dose of abilify.

Her and I discussed that it's a long shot, off label, case files is where we're looking. More explanations in depth to come Monday. She just hopes I can tolerate side effects, and then we'll go into more discussion.

Just curious...if anyone here has used it.

Never used it...but I find it fascinating the stuff they prescribe sometimes...like how some people take statins to control nightmares....
I guess if it helps.. but the side effects look scary.

Indeed, it can have a few scary side effects. She warned me. It's a long shot either way, I was hoping others may have utilized it.

The MD just put my mom on this to counter-act the side-effects of Geodon (twitching, muscle rigidity, weakness, and grinding her teeth). She has Alzheimer's. I did read that it improved memory. The nurse indicated that my mom has been very chatty and more in real-time since beginning the medication. We'll see what happens, she's on quite a cocktail right now and I'm not really thrilled with this situation. Hoping you have a good experience with the medication and that it brings you some relief. Take Care. VB

I'm up to 150mg of the Amantadine and I think it's subtly helpful!

A calming effect, focusing a bit more too. Paired with the low dose of Abilify, they seem to be working well. I'm a smudge dizzy, but it's manageable.

I'm not as overwhelmed, overstimulated and agitated.
