One of my abusers used guns to threaten me - he threatened my life and my familys life,

I am really sorry that happened to you, and obviously the system did fail in a way, no system is perfect. I have to ask though, were you vocal and involved in the process and did you make it known that he had threatened you with guns? If so the judge should lose his job.

And it just so happens that New York's gun restrictions are about as tough as Colorados. Gee it feels good to be a knuckle dragging redneck and cling to my guns and religion... because the more progressive communities sure do have a lot of crime and violence. Much more so than my little speck of the Bible belt, but I'm just sayin'.

Kudos for you A3A2... let's not forget the caste system in India (the untouchables), or hey how about the warped sense of honor of throwing yourself (a wife) on your dead husband's funeral pyre. So many cultural traditions so much to be ashamed of... but I'm with you.

I live in a nation where only about 35 after Selma Alabama our nation elected a non lily white president. That's something to be proud of. I'd like to see that happen else where in the world, western, or third world.

Statisticially considering we have over 368 million souls, we aren't talking about as much of a problem as you all seem to think we are. Anger management and civics and the importance of being a good citizen would go a long way ... much farther than gun regulation.

I'm still riled up about that statement. I read Friday that a mob of about 60 in Pakistan were armed with clubs and throwing stones assaulting people and police officers. Is that better or worse than one nut job or criminal? I'm glad I live in a country where I have a right to protect myself and my property.

Cave men and human beings throughout the ages have created weapons, and used them on each other. I got a news flash for you. Only the weapons change... murderous intent spans the ages. When my ex roommate in the military had to move to Perth, she sent me an article where someone killed their spouse with a frozen kangaroo tail. I swear, God's honest truth.

So I propose, we stop this passive agressive vilification of western ideals v.s. criminal acts that are so offensive to some of our delicate sensitivites... and ask the United Nations to collect all the stones, frozen kangaroo tails, guns, spears, cross bows, and bows, swords... scissors and anything else that is either sharp or we could kill someone else with and all sit around campfires every night and sing Kumbaya or We Are The World... so we can feel so warm and fuzzy about the world.. But don't be surprised if the peace and sanctity of the singing and drumming and hugging is shattered by a violent criminal act resulting in a fatality because... like it or not, our species has proven that though it aspires to be more, fellow members of our species can be a base and violent creatures without provocation or seeming rhyme & reason. It is the nature of the beast.

Oh and bazookas, and land mines, and drones, and atom bombs, and ICBM's, and ... well you get the idea. Gee, why would any third world nation envy ANY western nation and America? Um, because we are free to be what we wish to be and live in structures bigger than huts as big as our arm spans, and have drinking water, and electricity, and air conditioning and great food, and even if we have some crooks, thugs, societal problems, and politicial problems.... it is a better place to be than 8/10ths of the world. And though it's far from perfect, it's a damn sight better than what most of the rest of the world has to offer.

Yep, I reckon all gun factories should be closed down, make them entirely illegal outside of military and law enforcement use globally. Sure, criminals will still get them, but that really narrows the margin significantly of ever being held up by a gun, or being involved around a gun related incident. Locations where culling is required, they could be organised culling days to remove animal issues, then all weapons go back to the police station and get secured in a impregnable vault.

Ok... dreaming... but it would be nice. :O_o:

I dont get it, if you're going to be THAT unrealistic with your dreams, why not dream just a little bigger and dream that everyone would be nice and responsible enough that we could all own guns without people using them to murder each other?

Most of you are citing the need for guns to protect yourself and your property. I cannot imagine anything worse than having to carry a gun or sleep with one under my pillow to protect myself. I don't need it here in Australia nor do I want it. We are not a gun society and I am really happy about that.

No I wasn't able to because I had moved to the other side of world to start a new life and avoid him as he threatened my baby son after he got out of prison. As I had no witnesses, the police couldn't do anything, so we moved.

I found out about him getting his licence back after I moved in a newspaper article online. I wish I could have contributed in some way though - write a statement. Judge was a complete idiot though anyway and should lose his job. Who agrees to giving a licence back to anyone with a violent criminal conviction history. No wonder there are so many people with guns who shouldn't ever be allowed one when the legal system fails so badly - even when they have the opportunity to keep society safer. Makes me so angry.
