Anti- Depressants And Anti-anxieties

I am taking A-D, (SSRI), paroxetinum (its generic name, I guess it has another name in US, although I am not sure whether it is available in here)

... but I am on meds for only two weeks, so I guess I do not know if it already has full effect... My psychaitrist told me that paroxetinum has also some sort of anxiolytic effect. I got it due to SH issues. And I am glad, because my memories starting coming back recently and I found out my abuse was more severe than I assumed.

Are you currently on meds?

Hi @Tina
I have been taking the drug Quetiapine which is an atypical antipsychotic for the past 4 years. I take it as an anti anxiety medication, although that is not its primary use. I find it very helpful. It helps me sleep at night, and if I get stressed/anxious during the day I can take another one. The problem I have is remembering to take it at these times. I always remember at bedtime, but at other times I forget.

Some time back my doctor also put me on an antidepressant, which I took for 3 months. I did not find that at all helpful, and never wanted to take it in the first place. I did not think I was depressed, and neither did my Therapist, but at the time my doctor did. So I took them for a little while - because I was told to - and then when they had made no difference to me ( I felt better long before the antidepressants could have started working) so I stopped them. Doctors do advise that you stop them slowly as they can have side effects as you withdraw from them, but I did the research, came off them slowly and then told my doctor afterwards. Not what I would recommend - but it worked for me.

Are you considering taking one yourself?

Are you currently on meds?
Yes,yes, the medication you are on is Paxil. Am on the same thing. I have been taking it for over 2 months. And am starting to see very good changes. My social anxiety is starting to become less of a issue. Am no longer afraid to do the social activities I use to fear and the OCD issues are starting to go away also.:) Give it some time to in your system. Maybe about 2 months or three.Have you been having any side effect yet?

I am glad you are feeling better, Tina :)

Well, not sure about the side-effects - I mean, I already have headache, I already don´t sleep well and I already have decreased affinity towards food, so, I can´t distinguish between my original problems and the side effects... And I didn´t develop anything else yet, luckily. ;)

Have you been experiancing any of these or another one?

Well, that's good that you haven't had any big side effect. Oh, yeah when I first stated taking it about three months ago, I had loads of side effect. Almost made me want to stop taking them. But am glad that didn't. :)
