Are Some Jokes Too Hurtful/Offensive For This Forum?

Has anyone suggested to Anthony that all members add a prefix to their joke like "SEXUAL CONTENT: The Horny Farmer and the Rubber Boot"?

It would give people a chance to decide if they are ready that day to be possibly triggered.

just a thought,
Dave

While I agree with what you are saying Cragger the label/title given to the web address was Carlos Mencia on "how to make a woman c*m." Which I think you could safely assume had sexual context.

Look, Wendy's reaction was her reaction but I've been raped and I thought it was funny. Everyone's views are different. We have had great discussions about this off the forum in relation to one particular part of the joke which we didn't understand as it was said in Spanish.

I think we have an obligation to warn adults if children are going to be exposed to sexual content but as adults we have to work it out for ourselves. What about internet pop ups which advertise explicit sex....?? I have found some normal jokes offensive and they have had no sexual content. The issue here is Wendy is triggered by such things (understandably I am sure) but isn't part of the healing facing your trauma and triggers and over coming them? I am not saying that Wendy has to like such poor taste jokes but in time she may hopefully come to an acceptance that they are just that "poor taste jokes" and nothing really personal which should upset her.

I am by no means diminishing Wendy's situation.

Thank you, this was exactly what I was thinking but was momentarily at a loss on how to get my point across without sounding argumentative. There was fair warning about the content of the joke and one could then choose to either watch it or not. Again, I chose not to watch it because I've been having a tough couple of weeks and didn't think it was the best choice for me. However, I am sure that at some point in the future when I'm feeling a bit stronger (or closer to my normal) I'll go back and view it. It's all about personal choice, people! We don't, nor can we, live in a bubble.

While I understand all others opinions and feelings on this subject, I still have my own opinion and it has not changed. There are many situations in life that one must use common sense and a bit of compassion, for lack of a better word.

For examples......I am aware that there are several vets on this site, (Anthony being one of them) I would never post anything derogatory (even in a joke) that would offend one of our vets. Many have lost limbs, and struggle daily with trying to deal with not only the loss of a limb, but the feelings that are associated with that loss. Would anyone find it appropriate to post jokes about a vet being a gimp? Laugh at how they fall while trying to walk? Call them names like the bionic man, metal parts and such????? Would it be appropriate to post joke about blacks or Jews on this forum knowing that there may be blacks and Jews that would be offended????? Common sense tells ME, that it would be inappropriate to do so, and knowing this I choose NOT to hurt another with bad choices.

My opinion is just one of common sense, and that while the link that Anthony posted may very well be funny in another setting, I just find it inappropriate in THIS setting. There is a time and place for everything and common sense should prevail first.....

The long and the short of it is this: (Heck, it's me writing, so just the long of it!)

Did it violate any rules or the content policy of this forum?

If so, then action should be taken, even if it was the owner of the forum.

If not, then he should neither have to apologize nor justify it.

People will stop writing or censor their diaries, posts, etc. if they get called out for something that is not a legitimate violation. Then where will things be? We'll just have a little fluffy board of "politically correct" blah that will help nobody.

Anyone who has a problem with a post can use the report button without publicly calling out the poster in the threads. Like SheCat, I didn't feel it was appropriate for the forum as a whole, but it was germain to the thread it was it. Therefore, I chose to neither visit the link, nor report it as being inappropriate.

I don't always agree with the decisions that Anthony makes with regards to the censorship of this forum or some of the restrictions to how things are posted. But, it is not my place to interfere with his authority. If I feel strongly enough about it, I'll PM him with my objections. I have never felt that it is proper to publically challenge a single person for a wrong doing unless it is a criminal offense. But, rather, do it privately and then, publically clarify the rules without calling them out in the process.

On a more personal level, as a new user, I had a preconceived and somewhat exalted view of Anthony as the creator of this forum and it was a bit of a shock that he was human like the rest of us. In that respect, it was a good thing that it was posted.

Thus I concludes my two cents by saying to myself: "Opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one."

HUGS to all
Robyn

I was uncomfortable going in the joke area and immediately seeing two jokes about women. Everyone takes their lumps in comedy, but I was worried it was going to be a pattern. I was glad that I didn't see a third one.

She cat-
You would be hard pressed to offend most vets. It does differ from soldier to soldier, but for the most part we are a pretty hard lot to upset. (Theres this buddy of mine who has a prosthetic hand, and he purposefully had a hook attachment made so he can wander around at the mall saying "YARRR!")

That said, as long as there was a clear warning, and no false advertisement, I don't think this site should be censored. You are going to encounter these things in your life as well, where they can't be censored even if they should be. It's hard, but exposure = desensitization. I will never be comfortable with loud explosions ever again, but if I hear enough of them maybe I won't jump under things at every opportunity (I hate the 4th of July).

I've been raped and I found this joke funny. I reckon its just a matter of taste. The joke is off forum, no one is forced into going to the site to view it. Most importantly to me at least, this joke was not about rape at all, it was about consensual sex between men and women. Consensual sex is a normal part of life for most people.

If we edited every joke here that might offend or trigger someone, I doubt there would be any joke thread at all, as everyone's opinions about what is offensive are different.
