Poll Are You Okay With Being Taped On Video Without Being Asked For Permission?

A few weeks back I got to know someone during a conference (caterer). The second time he came he drove a very unusual and super-cute car. We got along the first time, and the second time, too. He asked me if I wanted to go for a ride in the car and I did. Just down the road and back. I am quite sure he taped me from the way he held his smartphone and how he followed his car (and me) driving. Of course I can be wrong, and I mean that. But when I drove back, i.e. towards him, it hit me because of, as I said, the way he held his phone, moved it, etc.

My t said later: not every man is a perpetrator. Yes, I know. There may be tons of reasons for him taping it; I doubt I was on there big-size anyway, if he taped at all. It did get me thinking though and feeling not too well with him around anymore. Oh well. Too bad. He was even cuter than his car.

If you answer "no", I'd be grateful for comments on why you are not okay with it, maybe outlining a particular situation, especially what you would do if it were a person you had met only one time before.

I don't even like having my photo taken at family gatherings. It ask just feeds into my feelings of being exposed and not safe. I would rather blend in and be invisible. I avoid crowds and public places. I can feel the knot of anxiety growing in my throat just writing this.

Seriously, though, in this country not being okay with it just isn't an option. CCTV is ubiquitous.

I don't like being filmed, or photographed without permission - as an abuser forced me to take nude and suggestive photos - which were then produced as evidence in the court hearing that ended in him going to prison.

It was so devastating watching the jurors looking at all the photos. The level of shame was beyond words.

I hate people taking my photo now.

I'm actually triggered being videotaped-It sets me off and is a sure-fire way to induce a flashback for me. Luckily I haven't been videotaped in about four years-so that's a good thing. Doesn't matter who is doing the videotaping, or where, or why, or if it's going to be seen by anybody or not, if I'm feeling unsafe it's not okay.

I'm so sorry for this. I wish the judicial process (worldwide) would consider the trauma of going through it's courts and devise ways which diminished and protected people from further distress. It must have been awful for you. My own case never got to court and I have left that behind me now. I can't begin to imagine what the effects would have been had it proceeded. I hope you got the result you needed. :hug:

I voted "no" but will say I have no problem with CCTV type filming. In other words random impersonal filming is fine and it makes me feel safer.

Absolutely any filming that would be done on purpose no matter by whom would make me feel violated.

I have no problem with ending up in the background of a video filmed in a public place. That's kind of fair game. I have no problem filming myself or making a pointless video with my sister, either.

If I were to randomly notice some stranger pointing a camera in my direction as I browsed the shelves at the local book store, I would probably leave. I think it's more an issue of being uncomfortable with not knowing why I've captured someone's attention, rather than an issue of not wanting to be on film.

Thank you Springer80, it was absolutely horrendous. Yes, the judicial system does not support trauma victims. My court hearing was 20 years ago though.

I hate camera's. No good, all the train stations are filled with security camera's. I like to wear a baseball cap or something and put the visor deep over my face so they don't film me :/ Not much I can do about those things...

I didn't answer the poll, as I live in a building that has video cams in it, and I moved in here before they were installed. They are for crime prevention, but when crimes have been committed here since they were installed, they were not solved, even when the police were given a copy of the video. However, that is not the cams fault, our police force is not the best....

I am in favor of having the cams here, as a deterrant I guess, even though they make me self conscious sometimes. I like to do my walking for exercise in the hallway. Knowing the cam is recording me makes me feel wierd sometimes.
