Since finding out that in a number of EU countries Cool Ranch Doritos are called Cool American Flavor I wonder what other items are called national names?

In America what we call cheese danish is in Denmark called Vienna bread—passing the buck. And I’m pretty sure American cheese is called that everywhere? (Except some people call it plastic cheese.)

Called Cool Original here, never knew it had anything to do with Rach - is that as in Ranch dressing? I like them.

We don't call it American cheese, and plastic cheese is an unofficial name. Processed cheese is prolly more official, though just looked it up, cause I think it's not allowed to call it cheese - it's processed cheesy slices.

I don't honestly know if it's the same as American cheese, might not be.

I've never had a cheese Danish, sounds good.

I think of it more as an extruded cheese like product. Remember, if you can’t pronounce the ingredients it probably isn’t good for you.

Once I was in Italy staying with a friend and he was having a long loud argument with his friends, a common occurrence. They suddenly stopped and he asked me, “Is it true that in America you have *spray butter*?” That’s what they were arguing about.

And of course what makes it even worse is that yes we have spray butter but it’s artificial butter.

Or if they have almost as many letters as there are in the alphabet.

is that as in Ranch dressing?

Ranch, in the USA, is always creamy & herbaceous. To the point that if it’s creamy & herby? “Ranch” nearly always gets used in the name.

Similar to how Alfredo gets used in the name in other creamy/herby names.

Ranch = creamy/herbacious cold.
Alfredo = creamy herbaceous hot.

Once I went to a Bad Taste Party, everyone had to dress and act in bad taste. Even the food was in bad taste, Twinkies with anchovies on top. Spray cheese would have been perfect at that party.

The French have a cheese called “the royal death”, which I know -as we specifically asked for the name, to the sparkling delight of the server- to avoid in future. I’ve SMELT week old corpses bloating in water, and heat. This was, rather alarmingly, more like that than anything I have ever known. As in I’m not entirely uncertain that it was not aged inside OF a corpse. In sunlight. Whilst being pissed/shit upon. Nope, nope, NOPE!

Conversely?

Delicacy -definition- What can we get this crazy foreigner to eat NEXT?!? >>> if it’s food EVERYONE loves? It’s usually quite good. A delicacy? Is nearly always to be avoided.

Similarly? I have a very good friend who is an expat American in Paris. For her first child she was too overwhelmed to ask WHY her pediatrician was recommending she start her toddler on XYZ cheeses. SHE assumed, with her first, it had to do with probiotics, etc. With her second? She asked why? Her pediatrician assured her sweetly, why, to accustom them to the taste!

My local supermarket delivery place does 4 brands of Ranch, any of these familiar? I'll buy one of them to try, they all get the same 4 out of 5 star reviews, curious if any of you know these brand's Ranch dressing?
