Gday all
I was a grunt serving in Afghanistan a couple years back, in 2011 when the drinking didn't help anymore and I was made to stop drinking by work, my problems became even more apparent. I was diagnosed with ptsd, I tried to keep it quiet, but in the end chain of command always find out, once it was known I was immediately ostricised from my peers and bullied by my superiors, this went on for some months, rendering all therapy I was doing at the time useless. I finally hit breaking point and when I did, my mind switched to kill mode and i felt asthough I was back overseas, in the shit. I went on a week long rampage, that left civilians injured, my wife and son emotionally scarred for life, my superiors running to get away from me. After barackading myself in my home for the weekend with my 12gauge waiting for the MP's to try and take me away, I calmed down enough to get myself to the doctors on base, I was immediately admitted to the psych ward. I've not been back to work since and am now awaiting discharge from the defence force.

You did good getting yourself to the psych ward. I was medically retired due to ptsd in 2001 (Vietnam, Desert Storm). You'll have some administrative challenges ahead with the VA claims process and the SSD claims process, but if you stick with the processes and therapy you will come out well.

Take care.
