Avoidance Due Anxiety

I actually will get up and answer the door. But I'll be paranoid and poke my eye out the side of the window first, I don't get a lot of visitors.

The last time I did this it was Jehovas Witness, I wan't him to go but he insisted on asking me questions, I eventually told him I didn't believe in god. He said ohh that's so sad, and I said yeah.., and closed the door on him.

We mostly get realtors (again) in my area, or they say they are :whistling:. Before the housing bust, they were all over us so my husband told me to start telling them that he'd be willing sell for a million dollars otherwise stay away from our house. That got quite the reaction but didn't stop them from ringing the bell. After the bust it got pretty quite for awhile. Our churches are always trying to invite us and although the people are very friendly, I have a hard time when they have children with them . I can see somewhat through the window but then they can see me, so I bring out the big Girl or simply say no thank or see you there, thanks!

It's the men with the clipboards that get me riled up! The phone is fairly easy, all my friends know the code for letting me know it's them ;) , all else I can simply ignore and the phone goes in the other room at night.

I don't like answering the door either unless they're expected. I have a storm door which I covered with a one-way metallic screen so I can see out but they can only see their reflection. People don't like it but too bad.

Yes, the doorbell and the home phone both make me jump and I don't like answering either unless I know who it is.

I always have a feeling it will be bad news. If I've missed a call whilst I'm out this can make me anxious. I suppose this all relates back to the feeling of a perceived treat. All quite normal if you have PTSD, but not that normal if you don't.

I am so relieved to know I'm not the only person who has the phone and door issues. I will not ever answer the door for anyone I don't know. (And sometimes, I won't answer it for people I DO know either....). I always have everything locked down tight, even when I'm sitting right in the living room watching TV. I won't answer the phone for any number I don't recognize, and I immediately run to Google it and find out who called. I prefer text messages or emails from people I do know, and try to discourage phone calls from them too....
