Awakened Into Panic

It is the middle of the night. I am having major anxiety/panic. I was sleeping. Yes, sleeping. Then, there was loud bangs- one after the other and I was petrified. Shaking. It was just firecrackers. I know it was. I am still scared. Why? Why must they do this? It is the middle of the night. It is not easy to fall asleep and I certainly don't need to awakened by the nightmares of outside. This is not the first time that this has happened, but this was the latest and the loudest. And it was followed by loud voices and hollering. Male voices primarily.

I am not liking where I live right now. I wish I could just figure out where they are coming from, find some bravery, and ask them for at least a little consideration of their timing and maybe some advance warning. The sounds were coming from an area that doesn't make sense to me. It seemed to be past our neighbor's house which is woods. Behind my house a little ways is a field, but that was not the direction of the voices. I don't know if I will be able to go back to sleep. I am shaking so much. I have my weighted blanket and I keep telling myself it was only firecrackers.

Deep breaths ...... its ok to be scared of firecrackers, I have jumped a few times wondering what the noise is (Im sure they get louder every year!) and the noise from them can travel so far. Sorry you got woken from your sleep, I hope you manage to get back to sleep xx

Yeah I'm up too. There's a group of mostly 12 year olds that move from point A to point B and wake me up. I keep meaning to talk to the police about them. They are so loud and obnoxious arrrgggg go home and who let's their 12 year old roam outside at 3:00am?

I think over time you'll not be so jumpy and I wish for both of us to live where it's quieter.

We had the same thing last night. Although I do understand why the wait until 10:30, it is not completely dark up her until then, but it is still frustrating.

I was really tired yesterday; it was a long day, and I was ready to go to bed when, all of a sudden, we started hearing fireworks. This wasn't just people in the neighborhood; it was a local resort setting them off.

I am sorry it was such a stressful night for you. I truly hope things get better soon.

Thanks everyone. I did get to sleep, but it took a couple of hours. Then, I had nightmares. Then, I was awoken by my older son. Then, I was awakened by my husband's alarm. And the last culprit was either a herd of cows (there have never been cows around us before this morning) or some wild animal.

@RussH - 10:30, I can understand because of the waiting to get dark though it would be earlier here. I don't understand after midnight. It still stinks though. Sorry you had trouble, too.

@RussH - It would take a lot for me to call the police as I don't use the phone much. Sometimes I can get my husband to do it. We did last year summer and had the police at our house and our neighbors (just to check if they had heard what we did). Not sure I want to repeat that, but maybe...

@JEKBreatheandBelieve I just wanted to send you this picture. This was taken about twenty miles from my house. I hope you like it. It is the northern lights above Mackinaw city. The bridge is the Mackinac bridge spaning the straits that divide Michigan's lower pensinula from the upper pensinula.
