Hi indigo

Your trauma doesn't sound petty, it actually sounds extraordinarily full-on.

I've only been diving about five times, but I had an awesome time, and it must be painful for you to know that you can't do it anymore.

I'm in Perth, I think you're the only other member here that is remotely close to where I am. I've been down to Denmark a few times. You're right, you are lucky. That region is magnificent. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place to be managing a severe mental illness.

You might want to take it easy on the ganja. That shit is responsible for a lot of people's mental health issues. Recent studies are showing some alarming (but long suspected) connections between marijuana use and the development of such mental illnesses as schizophrenia; obsessive-compulsive disorder; generalised anxiety disorder, and PTSD.

Marijuana weakens your psychic integrity and makes you more vulnerable to stress. It cultivates paranoia; lethargy and apathy.

Marijuana is represented in popular culture entertainment (i.e. That 70s Show; Harold and Kumar go to White Castle; Weeds) as a harmless, socially acceptable, recreational drug. As a result, its use has come to be seen as something that is comical and normal. In reality it's not. Marijuana is dangerous. It ****s up people's lives. Not as commonly, and usually not to the extent of drugs like crystal meth; but it does its fair share of damage.

With your condition, the stability and integrity of your mind is already compromised. You do not want to be compounding that effect with substances, like marijuana, or any other drugs or alcohol for that matter.

Hi Indigo, welcome to the forum :hello:

I wanted to reply to your message yesterday and it was on my mind all day. I was out all day and unable to reply, but I hope that what I have to say and what others have already said has been of some comfort and reassurance to you.

I too was involved in an incident at work which has left me with PTSD. I loved my job so much and completely relate to the loss, frustration, anger and sadness that you are feeling about having such a significant part of your life both as your job and hobby. I guess it was a whole lifestyle for you? I anticipate that other thoughts and emotions will start to surface as you continue to heal. This is ok.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened that day and how this has left you without much of the person you recognised. Please don't lose hope though. Recovery and rebuilding is exhausting and looking after yourself is very important. It's so tough to recover both physically and emotionally. I am trying to imagine just how difficult this must be for you. PTSD is tough enough to deal with, but then to have other obstacles to contend with must be devastating.

I have only been on the forum for a fortnight and I am so pleased that I found it. Something that I learned very quickly was, there are many routes that people have travelled to get here, many causes of their PTSD, other influencing factors, coping strategies, symptoms to varying degrees and emotions expressed on a daily basis. No matter how people have got here, the fact is that we are equal. What brings us all together is the condition- whether it's a sufferer or carer, and our willingness to share the good and bad, our experiences and search for solutions, comfort and support. I hope that you will find the forum as supportive and welcoming as I have and that you will be honest with us all and yourself with regards to how you are doing and contribute to other threads if you feel you'd like to. Please do keep posting and I for one will be here to support you as you work through the next few days, weeks months.

Have you been able to express your thoughts and feelings to anyone close to you? Keep posting here.
