The more time that goes by, the more I see all of the effected layers from
trauma. As I have learned here, we all sometimes get wrapped up in clinical psychological definitions (PTSD, MPD, Schizophrenia, or any other cognitive diagnosis). I have been guilty of that because I wanted to put a face on my torment. Either way we are here for the pain. A pain caused by some sort of trauma that we want to go away for our loved ones and ourselves.
Since we can not fix or actively be the one to resolve all of the pain, or memories from it. I believe we have to strike a balance between learning to cope with it, understanding the situation as best we can and then learning to accept what we and loved ones need to move forward.
This delicate balance will ultimately decide the path that is best for us at some point. We can hope it is a shared one with the ones we attempt to support, but it won’t always be the case. Either way we must go on in life, attempting to do the best we can because at some point our unwavering support begins to have a cascading effect on our own existence and those who depend upon us also.
Balance certainly seems to be the answer. I guess being human predisposes us to wanting to have it all, but it seems sometimes that a heavy cost is always paid by someone more than another.
If you support loved ones without the guarantee of support in return, then you are a person of great worth. You carry yourself and the burdens of others for love of life all the while balancing things as you go.
That is what makes you all great, even if you are not recognized for it.
