Bed bugs, eeeuuuuuooooo!!!!!

I will see what they suggest. The roach exterminator has to come every month. He never succeeds in getting rid of them. They always come back. I just assumed, because I read on a number of websites, like Wikipedia for instance, that the exterminator for Bed Bugs would be the same. Hey, maybe I am wrong.

I am mostly concerned for my pets. I have fish in a 10 gallon tank and a pet Guinea Pig. I don't know what whatever the exterminator uses will do to them, so that was why I chose the Diatomaceous Earth. The exterminator is coming Monday anyway, like it or not. I am just trying to prepare for what comes later. Because I am pretty sure that something will come later.

@SheilaKathy So did the extermination company come on Monday??? If so what did th...
Well, my place has none, but 3 apartments in the building do have them. They are only treating those 3 apartments though, so I got some DIATOMACEOUS EARTH and gave some to the owners of 2 of the apartments that I know of, the 3rd I don't know who it is, so I cannot give any to that person.

I put some in some bowls and placed my bed posts into them. That is what I am doing to protect myself, should they "migrate."

I have a spare bottle, if I can find out who the other person is.

That is all I can do for now, I guess!

Why didn't I think of that?
That's bloody ingenious.
You just have to be sure that the bed is not up against the wall and that no bedding is touching the floor either. I hear that they don't hop or jump, so that helps some. This stuff is an eye and a lung irritant, so be sure to cover your eyes with some goggles and your nose with a surgical mask when you apply it! I found this out the hard way.

Well, I had tho throw out the D. Earth. It was irritating my eyes too much. So I washed it off my bed legs with a wipe and threw out the bowls with it in it. I had to wear a mask and goggles to do this, or I would have gotten more of it yet into my eyes. I don't know if everyone reacts to it this way or not. All I know is that my eyes are very sensitive to it. The bottle says that your lungs can be affected by it too, but mine don't seem to be. So, I assume there might be people in the world who could tolerate it without having any reactions to it what so ever. However, I am not one of these people! Oh well.

My neighbor got a steam heater of some kind and is doing his whole apartment with it to be sure to be rid of the bed bugs. He has already killed off about 30 of them with the NEEM OIL spray. He lives quite some ways from me, so I hope he succeeds with the steamer. My other neighbor I gave some of the D. Earth to, so I hope it does not affect his eyes like it did mine. They both are supposed to have their apartments treated on Monday by the exterminator too. Also, there is one other apartment that is affected, but no one knows whose it is. The MYSTERY apartment.

D.E. is great. Bu tyes, you have to be super careful with it and wear protection. Line the base boards with it. I am dealing with this now. I bought a really good blow dryers and I and got in every nook and cranny in my dresser. I found a nest in the spine of one of my hard back books. Like you my building is infested. 400+ apartments.

Oh goodness. I had an apartment with bed bugs years ago - turned on the light in the middle of the night and saw the little red suckers all over the bedroom wall, lamp shade, bed etc. To be honest, bed bugs are HARD to get rid of. You can have someone come in and fumigate. But I moved out of the place and got rid of my mattress and all my furniture. If she doesn't have the money to fumigate and/or replace furniture and MOVE if at all possible, I would recommend contacting local Health and Human Services or organizations like Emergency Family Assistance who could provide funds to help her pay for this. It's a health concern!

@Fadeaway If all 400 apartments are affected by this, call the board of health. You can ask that your call be anonymous and they will respect that. They will contact the landlord/owner and demand that something be done. This is a violation of health board rules. Rodents and pest are not acceptable.

Bed bugs are extremely difficult to get rid of. My last customer just found this out. He had them and had a company come in and do the heat treatment and chemical treatment. 2 weeks later, I found the little f*ckers again... So the company came back and retreated with chemicals in th room I found them. On Thursday they are coming back with a trained canine dog that sniffs the little buggers out. If the dog hits, they will once again, treat the place....

I'm have spent so much time cleaning and throwing stuff out at this house you wouldn't believe.... I'm so tired of being there....

@She Cat I just moved from there, but believe me, I plan to call. I just need to take care of other legal issues with that place first. For the most part we didn't take anything that could be infected, including most of our clothes, bedroom furniture and any other fabric furniture. Everything wiped downed thoroughly. Anything that we couldn't part with was put in black trash bags and will be left on the porch for a year.

@Fadeaway Putting clothing and fabric in a dryer on high heat for 40 min. kills bed bugs. The stuff in the trash bags.... set it in the car, in the sun for a day or two, with the windows closed. As long as it's pretty hot outside temps will rise far enough to kill them. Bed bugs can live up to 2 yrs without feeding.... all of this info comes from talking to professionals that I've dealt with in dealing with my customers that have had bed bugs....

Let's just hope that you didn't miss eggs, as they are extremely tiny, barely visible to the naked eye. Keep checking your bed, near the head of the bed. Especially the tags, for some reason bed bugs like the tag area to lay eggs.

It's been several weeks since discovering the critters at my customers house and I'm still checking my bed out!!! Even though I've been told I would know if I had them with in a week... anyone see parinoia mixed with a little OCD here??????
