News Breastfeeding In Public?

I have no problem with it whatsoever, quite the opposite. A nursing mother is nurturing her child, about as far from abuse as you can get.

I too breast fed my kids in public because we happened to be out and about. I always tried to be discreet but that never mattered to the people it offended. Actually the more discreet I tried to be, the more noticeable I was. People got belligerent, demanded I go to the bathroom or be kicked out. I even was accused of molesting my children.

There just breasts. They are there to make the milk that feeds babies. That's why some cities here in the states are passing laws or changing policies that allow women to go topless. The only thing that makes breasts sexual is our cultural bias. They are not inherently sexual. Many women and indeed many cultures don't include them in their sex play. That's a western civilization thing.

I can understand the squeamishness though as we transition from a society that over sexualizes the female form. It's going to take time for breasts to be on display before we see them as simply a part of the human body and not a part of our genitalia.

Wow! ..... just.....no. wtaf!! Are you seriously suggesting that a mother breastfeeding her child is in some way a sexual act?
From someone who was sexually abused as a child and breastfed my own child I find that hugely offensive.

Am I the only one who finds the irony in the fact that the person who is shaming others and says there is no shame in breastfeeding has posted anonymously? I think this person needs to walk the walk and not just talk the talk if they want to be taken seriously.

know what? screw it. I've only saw breastfeeding maybe once in my life and I thought it was weird. I was adopted so I was bottle fed. I feel it should be done privately in a restroom or something.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. You are even entitled to share it. But people might react pretty strongly. I'm not "offended" but this is a big deal topic to me. It took a lot of work for me to feel ok about nursing my kids. I had to work on my own issues big time. So I react strongly.

Things you aren't used to seem weird. That makes sense. But suggesting that people do it in a bathroom is pretty disgusting. Do you want to go eat in a bathroom? Infants have a lowered immune system. You really think they should be subjected to the filth in public restrooms just so you don't have to see them eat?
