When I did mine, I went like Sarg said.....I did not know what this was all about and was told I needed stressers. The wife
helped write them up as I could not. Anyway I had 7 or 8 can't remember, the Psychologist would not read them, said I had to tell him about them. So after the first one, he was not looking to well. I was f*cking pissed, so I just went COLD & HARD and read all the rest. Asshole... After all that, I think he was looking for a place to puke. Sometimes you get what you ask for.

I found out later, he did put 4 in my file......

Over the years I've put my family & myself through some hell. However in the past 2 yrs I put in some hard work and I've made a lot of improvements. I started taking bupropion a few months ago to quit smoking and realized that it actually helped with my PTSD. I actually feel like a normal human being again. I feel great 95% of the time in stead of 5%. Reason I bring this up is cuz what your speaking of here, I believe is what my va counselor is trying to get me to do. He has me going to see a rep from the VFW to put in a claim. Mostly for ptsd and some other physical issues. Truth is, I'm not sure I feel right going for this now. How do I speak of how I was in the past when I'm not like that now? I'm not good at NOT being honest. Am I waiting my time with this? Is it worth the few different days I'll have to take off work?

Sapper,

I'm also on Bupropion. And, yes it's working for me too. But, that drug has NOT changed my post traumatic stress conditon. It simply helps stablise some of the chemical imballance in the brain cause by that stress.

The anxiety and hyper allert conditions we face cause production of huge amounts of norepinephrine, a hormone and neurotransmitter most responsible for vigilant consentration ( see Wikipedia ). Big shots of this shit is like PTSD on steroids.

My doctor's ( MD type) reaction to my imballence was "I'm surprised you haven't killed someone or yourself". What he saw was that serious.

Those type drugs are just one part of the whole puzzle.

Oh, crap. Our bodies are producing so many chemicals detrimental to our well being, it's amazing we don't just burn out like a light bulb. My therapist went down the list of what was going on in me and it sounded like Dr. Frankenstein screaming..."It's alive!, IT'S ALIVE"!!!!!!

The VA should do blood panels on us when we claim a PTSD disability. Everything would be so skewed, a diagnosis would be easy to come by. They might want to know what planet we came from. Mars?

I hate forcing this off topic. What type of blood work do you look for. My blood work is excellent. But I feel like shit.

Grizzly,

My diagnosis wasn't based on blood work alone. My doctor read my book, and spent lots of time talking with me. He is extremely thorough. In over forty years he's only the second physician who actually talked with me, rather than simply plugging me into some data base and writing a perstription based on what the machine spit out.

The medical / therapy folks are just scratching the surface when it comes to treatment. Hell, they've only just admitted there's a problem.

Grizzly, you may want to look into you having low testosterone. Because you said "But I feel like shit." Now this is not as easy as it sounds, as most docs do a blood test on your testosterone and it comes in at lets say 200 (low side) most docs say it fine, it's at 200. It a one size fits all...and that is just BS. I have been taking it for 5 years now, I am 63 and I take a shot of 100mg of T once a week. (the wife gives me the shot in my ass, I do think she likes it.;) I feel good at a level of 500 to 650 on my blood test. That maybe good for you, but you could need more or less. Note: If you do need it and find a doc that will give it to you, most of the time he will give you 200mg once a month. That did not work with me, it's called fall off, the first 7 days are OK, than it starts to fall off and you will feel it. I was lucky I started with a younger endocrinologist and he knew his shit. My current Doc at my local VA CBOC is also an endocrinologist (he's 72) and is up to date. Most MD's are not.....I have a friend that is about my age, he has been taking testosterone since he was 7 years old.

You may want to do a search like "low testosterone i feel like crap all the time" to start. Don't let all the f*cking ads get you down, most will say the symptoms of low T are 9, 10, 14 or more and mostly talk about the sex part. There are a lot more symptoms, that have nothing to do with sex.

Oh, I cut down once just see how I would feel. I took 100mg every 2 weeks. Blood came back a 257. Went 8 more weeks and had a blood test, came back at 167 and I was feeling like shit!!!:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::poop::poop::poop:

That's is something that I will inquire about on my next visit,to the CBOC. My doc there is an endocrinologist as well. Last time he wanted to look at thyroid and it came back good.

I also have my C&P for Gulf War illness coming up. Maybe that will bring in additional testing.

OK, what blood and labs are you having done? Are you getting a urinalysis as well? If you're only getting basic metabolic panel you only get general tests. There's also a comprehensive met panel which as the name implies, is more extensive. Same with a urine sample, depends what they're looking for.

If you are having good tests and still feel like shit it could also be your thyroid as a low production of hormone will make you feel tired and listless as well.

I've had enough blood test to fill a pool, or at least it feels that way. Also, talk to your doc about how you're feeling. No one should feel like 'shit'. Could also be affects of PTSD. I could go on but hope you find out what's going on and feel better Brother.

I will definitely bring this up with my doctor next time. Thyroid had been screened. So it is either GWI or effects of the PTSD.

Hey Grizzly

Always good to check on these things. Nothing ever goes away on it's own. Also, check with your psych doc, if you have one, if it's related to PTSD or depression, for instance, there are meds that might help. Life's too short to feel like shit.
