Can The Va Help?

I have done everything in my power to cope with what I "Think" is PTSD... I know self diagnosis is not the answer. However, I have been asking around trying to find out if this is fact or fiction: "Will the VA deny a medical claim if you have a Bad Conduct Discharge?" I do not want to sit on a phone for hours on end with the VA for them to simply tell me yes or no.

I have a Bad Conduct Discharge and have been told repeatedly that the VA cannot help in anyway with diagnosis of PTSD or any other medical issue you may have...

Is this a true or false statement? Thanks in advance!

Jason

You might want to ask that one over on the Combat PTSD Forum. You'll get more military related advice over there. I was in the Canadian Army so I really don't know the specifics about the VA. I know in Canada the DVA and the Army are not related.

My husband went to the VA for treatment, I'm sure it wouldn't take long for you to find out. Have you tried calling them? They have many clinics and such also. When my husband started going he just went to the intake module/section and it didn't take too long. I'm sure even if you went in there and sat in line it wouldn't take too long for you to find out.

You would need to contact a service organization and appeal the bad conduct discharge to be elgible for va benefits. It's not an easy process, but I was in group with a veteran who was successful in getting his discharge upgraded to general, under honorable conditions. I think the basic arguement was the behavior that resulted in the bcd was the result of ptsd and should have been treated not punished.

Good luck.

There is no way I can have my discharge upgraded or changed in any way shape or form. I am stuck with a BCD until the day I die. I also have a sex offense felony charge against me until 2019. However, my question still remains a mystery. Will the VA still grant me medical disability? I am currently using my VA Home loan and post 9/11 GI Bill. I do have those benefits and have been using them for years. Thanks in advance,

Jason
