Undiagnosed Care To Lend Some Advice?

Stop me if I'm wrong, but how isn't this DID?
There are a couple reasons why I don't think it is DID - Max isn't developed enough. It's like one step short.

We can't give you a diagnosis Hemlock as that is the province of a skilled trauma specialist. But I am wishing you well in your healing journey.
Oh I know:) But I also know that sometimes people who experience it firsthand can give me at least some decent advice:)

In the end, it only matters that we can find a good connection with a clinician we can connect with, trust and grow with.
I totally agree with this. I saw this happen with my mom where she was with a psych who wasn't really listening to her, and now she has one who she has made larger steps to being better in 3 months than in 3 years with the old one.

Is it possible that Max is your escape when the pressure gets too much?
It's possible. Definitely something I haven't really considered...thank you:)

The way I understand it is that PTSD is a form of a dissociative disorder?
The way I understand it those who believe in stuctural dissociation theory believe it is but official DSM and ICD theory does not. They both see dissociation as one of the possible symptoms that can come with PTSD or a separate diagnoses if it is significant enough.

Those that follow structural dissociation theory see all trauma as versions of separated self states and those with more developed ones from early and repeated trauma then become more sophisticated. Structural dissociation theory also doesn't include any of the depersonalisation and derealisation symptoms we normally think of as dissociation. It is all about trauma with a big T and different variations of personality states and for sophisticated alter states needs to be about repeated trauma pre 5 years of age from what I understand. With PTSD and other types of dissociation there is no age issue. What people commonly experience when they have something like an emotional flashback would be considered an EP or emotional part in structural dissociation theory.

So to come back to the beginning a diagnoses of PTSD would be all about the criteria being met. The same for a dissociative disorder. Separate criteria and separate diagnoses although most dissociation for those with PTSD will just be part of their PTSD for both ICD and DSM. It is only if the dissociation is significant enough that a separate diagnoses is given.

When you were diagnosed you with Bipolar did you mention all your symptoms to the psychiatrist?

I'm baffled as to how you can have named personalities and not have DID?
The way I understand it there are many reasons and situations where people have named different aspects of themselves without it being DID and it isn't even that uncommon. People can even have significant Depersonalisation Disorder that can make them feel very split.

So my last official Dx was Bipolar 2. That was at a hospital where I was at for a week and I didn't quite get to explain what was really going on with me.

I'm confused that you were at the hospital for a whole week but didn't quite get to explain fully. I think it would be best to go back to the same practitioner you saw there and fill in the gaps, or see someone else and give them the whole picture.

As others have said, we can't diagnose you.

I also know that sometimes people who experience it firsthand can give me at least some decent advice

Best advice I can give is to see someone qualified to give you a diagnosis and tell them everything that's going on with you.

It was the way the doctor was. The kind of questions he asked. He made a lot of assumptions and that just forced Max to distract me enough that I didn't say anything

I hope you are doing OK Hemlock. I know you have received a lot of analytical and theory based responses to your thread and even debate. I think there are few reasons for that. How are you feeling about this now?

What would help you prepare so that you would be able to tell a psychiatrist everything do you think? Is going back to the previous one an option for you?

Oh a psych already knows everything. He is trying to help me make sure that I'm not bipolar. :) I am already on a road to some kind of better health lol - I just wanted some advice from people more intimately involved with PTSD. It's one thing to know what the symptoms are in the DSM, it's another thing to know what it's like to live with those symptoms...

Not yet (Right now he wants to just diagnose me with depression and anxiety) But he is a very thorough person. He wants to make sure that my whole set of symptoms aren't actually something else (It was actually his idea to reach out to people who live with stuff like this on a more severe level. He said it might help me figure things out [Another thing he's big on - self discovery...he said when people discover the real problem on their own, they accept it more and can heal faster which I agree with])

That became a lot more in depth than I thought it would lol
