There was an interesting discussion among some of my Russian friends recently. The topic was how horrific it is for Russian opposition activists, who have traditionally found support from the U.S., to now see a potential U.S. leader praising Putin. These are people who have seen their close friends assassinated for speaking out against the Kremlin ... and more often than not, the only people listening to them when they raised the alarm about increasing repressions at home were people in the White House. Now, to see Trump so openly praising Putin ... for them it's a nightmare.

Wow, I am also surprised Clinton said that. I can't defend the indefensible no matter who says it. She could have just said a lot of Trump supporters are bigoted, which is true, but should never have gone so far as to call them nasty names.

I really doubt that, Russ. The Democratic Party since the 20th century has been the party of inclusiveness. Everyone knows the vast majority of African Americans vote Democrat, for good reason. Do you have any supporting evidence for that assertion?

I've also been involved in the Democratic Party for years and I have yet to meet a prejudiced person at a meeting. On the contrary, even out here in rural white America, Democrats are amazingly unprejudiced, even though most have no personal experience with anyone of color.

Did anyone watch the Trump/Clinton forum that happened a few days ago? I haven't watched it yet, but I did watch Steven Colbert's take on it, and it's pretty funny. The consensus in the media seems to be that Matt Lauer lost. I rather agree. He's terrible at interviewing in this setting.

Yeah, Matt Lauer was definitely a major loser in this forum. I certainly hope NBC does better next time.

I mean, why spend so much time on Hillary's emails? Thank God the Washington Post called this out finally. It's a lost cause, people. There is no crime there, otherwise the Republican head of the investigation would have charged her, and we all know how much the Republicans hate her. End of story.

The statements I have heard Trump say regarding Putin, are statements or respect. The last statement he called him a good leader. He was showing respect for his leadership skills. It doesn't mean that Trump in fawning all over Putin.

Trump goes much further than being diplomatic. He actually was on Russia Today (which is funded by the Kremlin) singing the praises of Putin. Donald Trump defends Putin — on Putin's TV network Even the Trump campaign says it was a mistake.

For most Americans who have never lived in a communist country, but who are used to American media, they don't understand what state run TV really is about: propaganda. Not news, not even biased news. It's all about the message of the government. I have lived in a communist country as an American, and we were extremely careful to avoid being on state run TV or even having our image get into the hands of state run TV because they can and would use it as propaganda to promote their own purposes, not the truth. We didn't want to be mis-used to support things we didn't even know about.

Even if Trump wasn't singing the praises of Putin, it almost doesn't matter. Simply appearing on Russian TV to defend Putin and criticize America is so foolish and Russian media - aka the Kremlin - is running away with just the image of Trump being on Russia Today to promote Putin.

At the Commander in Chief Forum, Trump referred to Putin as “The man has very strong control over a country,” and “It’s a very different system and I don’t happen to like the system, but certainly, in that system, he’s been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader.” Trump also said Putin had an “82 percent approval rating.” (Sources: CNN, and Why Donald Trump Can’t Stop Praising Vladimir Putin)

If Trump is doing all this to be diplomatic, it's really strange that Trump says that he would be different from Obama, and he would have just left the country and the G20 summit if they didn't have the right staircase for him.

Why is Trump's treatment of Russia and China so different, when they are both lead by strongmen and authoritarian style of leaders? I don't actually know why.

I think it might be because of the alt-right. They love Putin, but I honestly don't fully understand why.

I think there is a certain contingent of Americans who like authoritarianism. I don't know any other way to explain this. Occam's razor. I guess that somehow they missed out on the U.S. government lesson in high school on how democracy is better than a dictatorship.

Sidenote: The funny thing about that forum is that NBC sent out an internal memo to all employees praising their effort and saying Lauer did a "terrific job." They were really really proud of him. I got a copy of that email. It was so bizarre, such a disconnect there.

How about Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson for starters. How about the democrats automatically labeling all Christians as homophobes and bigots? I see it all the time. The democrats all talk about inclusiveness, until they find out you are don't agree them, then they become hateful.

Ask conservative actors if there is prejudice in Hollywood? They will tell you it is hard for them to find parts because of their political beliefs.
Look at the protest at the Trump events; the hatefulness being demonstrated toward any who don't agree with them.
So this kind of prejudice is just as prevalent on the left as it is on the right.

I'm not sure what you're saying about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. I have not seen either of them being hateful. I personally have not observed these phenomena either back home in Detroit nor here among Democrats, nor have I heard of this kind of thing. People are not all the same. If everyone was as you say, we'd probably all be Republicans. As it is, we have Democrat friends out here who happen to be Christians (Roman Catholic) and who are against gay marriage. It's all a mixed bag. And please try to forgive us for being frustrated sometimes when we are exposed to so much hate in the world. I just really don't see most of it or even half of it coming from Democrats.
