I just got over the worst flashback/panic attack combo I've had in months. I'm still really worked up and anxious and my body is agony. I am cycling through all the grounding techniques and calming skills I know but am also looking at a couple of boxes of medications and wondering if they might help. In general I am very reluctant to take medications for anything, but I feel like I really need some extra help right now. I have a few diazepam pills left over from when I was first diagnosed and suffering really badly with anxiety, but they take an hour or more before I start to calm down and leave me feeling groggy for a couple of days. I also have some codeine pills left over from from an injury a few years ago. I remember them being very calming within about 15 minutes and not wiping me out for so long.
Has anyone ever taken codeine for anxiety? As a one off, one pill, definitely not as a long term strategy (same goes for the diazepam). I'm sticking with my grounding techniques and trying to relax for now, but I am wondering if the codeine might be helpful. Even if I don't take it now, I'd like to know if maybe it is an option if this happens again.
Any advice would be appreciated.
