Cold showers and cold water swimming

Nope! :D I have trauma stuff around cold water, and being cold and wet; so I actually have to be careful... even when I’m enjoying the delicious f*ck outta swimming, which is one of my favourite things. It’s an easy thing to be careful of, so no worries. Like leaning against the wall alternating the hot/cold taps in the shower, hot springs and rolling in the snow//hot saunas and cold plunges, food and fragrant open fires on the beach. Things that say home & playful, instead of work & necessary, or held & helpless. The deliberate application of the opposite? Is also delightfully hedonistic :sneaky: and a wicked effective series of sensory tricks.

does anyone else do this?
I do. I listen to the Wim Hof method - I am not certain if that is what you are referring to MM. Like @Friday, I have some very real issues with coldness so I can't just slam dunk myself into cold water. I generally turn on the cold water in a burst at the end of my shower. I never immerse myself in ice cold water. I am not there yet and may never be.

I do it to help me increase my tolerance to cold and to try to remove the trigger effect of coldness and turn it into something empowering.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Ok, interesting, I am referring to that wim Hoff method, I’m gonna keep doing it, as it helps me, everyone is different, what suits one has a negative affect on another, hope you are doing ?

Ok I understand?

I have done this before. Ending my hot shower with cold water. I have heard is it helps strengthen mitochondria. Helps build resilience physically and mentally.

@Carpman Yeah I do. I found and got hooked on "Cold water therapy" via Joel Runyon's old Mission Impossible HQ site. It taught me a lot about the difference between real discomfort and the false blocks I had from perceived pain and/or finite discomfort and how much crap my brain/self talk will throw at me in order to avoid perceived pain, distress, or discomfort.

Loved it.

Taking cold showers is not for me. It's too chilly for me!

However, I enjoy taking warm showers, although I don't find it therapeutic from a mental health/emotional standpoint.
