My dreams are in colour and I call them nightmares as I rarely have nice dreams at the moment. In my dream it feels real, like I'm right back there and it's actually happening to me again. I hate sleep as sleep = nightmares.

I have always as long as I can remember only had dreams with color, also smell, touch, taste, everything that I relate to the reality.

No matter the dream or nightmare they are always in vivid color. They happen to be very realistic most of the time and I've often had difficulty distinguishing between reality and dream after I woke up.

I answered "both" but, the fact is, the latest recurring dream is more like items in duo-tone surrounded by full, vivid color.

My PTSD is combat-related. The latest set of recurring dreams is always about an intersection of roads. On each of the four corners of the intersection is a sandbag "fortress" of sorts... a short tower of sandbags and I recognize them as being checkpoints from both Israel and Beirut (Beirut being the war zone).

The thing is, the sandbag towers are completely unmanned and nearly duo-tone in color: Sand highlights and black dark tones. The REST of the intersection is vivid and I recognize them in full color with people moving about as if they don't see the check-point: Boston, DC, Florida, my home town in Hadley, Massachusetts. Always, I'm with someone and they're unconcerned about the checkpoint and just walk through. I try to stop them and wake up.

Anyway, the sandbags are always this bad "Photoshop" of the rest of the scene. The sandbags are duo-tone (browns and blacks) and the rest of the scene is vivid color.

Of the rest of the nightmares, anything Beirut is color if it's a memory. Everything else ... either black and white, or I don't remember color. Regular dreams are NEVER color except when I was at high altitudes (camping in the mountains, e.g.)

I answered both, but the only colorless dreams were in the dark, and there is no color in the dark, so I'm not sure that really counts as a black & white dream?

to quote a song, "my father said life is simple it's either Cherry Red or Midnight Blue..." seems to hold true for my dreams
