I think it is so important for therapist have the correct training. I am afraid as a Phd she should have known better and I would be worried about her going out as a councellor. All she has done is caused more problems for you by ignoring basic training requirements. But that's just my opinion.

What has helped for me is learning about how to be a councellor/therapist, what I was expected to do and how and all the moral, ethical and legal sides to it. I can then make a more informed decision about the type of therapist that would help me.

Seeing the hurt and horror on people's faces has stopped me from confiding much more than a few basic facts about my childhood, not many friends are prepared for a world so frighteningly different from their own. As for a therapist, I meet one tomorrow for the first time, and I hope she is better able to help than yours was. I feel like I harm people by sharing, so I don't share. most people don't have a clue that the world can be a bad and scary place and it feels like stealing their innocence when they find out what I have known since diapers. good luck in your healing, may you be blessed with peace.

Yes, there is that concern. I hadn't given it much thought but there is always a guilt that accompanies telling people about one's painful experiences.
