New Here
Hi,

My name is Jim.

I was suggest this website from the book: Complex PTSD, by Pete Walker.

This site seems a bit overwhelming. Not sure how can help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

I am new, also. This seems to be a good place. With PTSD it seems all new things in life can be overwhelming. Do you know how to eat a whole whale? One bite at a time, Just don't read something if it triggers you and your story is just that YOUR story it belongs to you and only you know what feels okay to share and what you still have to deal with and work on. I have complex PTSD also I am glad you mentioned the book I will check it out.

Hi Jim! Welcome!

What I recommend is if you'reoverwhelmed, just write out your own situation and see what people say. Ignore the other feeds perhaps for now. Also you may find chat a bit easier to handle.

Good luck on your recovery!

Also, as a fellow Canadian feel free to PM me if you have region-specific questions

Hi Jim,
Welcome to the forum! There is a lot on this site, so my suggestion is to just take in a little bit at a time. I know that one of the major things (other than support) that many of us get from here is simply knowing that we're not alone in all of this. That is, many of us don't know anyone in our real lives who have PTSD, so we come on here and find others who are able to understand us a bit better. I'm not sure if that's the same situation that you're in, but I know you can find support here from others who are going through or have gone through the same sorts of struggles.

Hi Jim. Welcome. It is a large site. If you get triggered easily, I suggest reading some of the articles instead of personal stories. The stories here vary in all kinds of intensities and sometimes it's good to take a breather when you need one. I know that all of us had to take breathers as supporters and sufferers on this forum. Reading the forum can cause a spike in symptoms so, be aware. But the insights and the feeling of not being so alone in it is comforting.

Hi Jim, yes I remember finding this site overwhelming when I joined too (and to be honest, sometimes I still do!) But stick with it, I've been here 3 years??? I think! Diary is the best thing for me. Helped me immensely. Can't tell you how important that is to be able to write out and get some help. Good luck

I suffer from effects of complex trauma from abusive childhood and other things. I'd be a bit careful about the complex PTSD label on here, it can cause a lot of debate as it is not recognised in the DSM. So just to warn you. Anyway what is important is healing and trying to do the best we can.

@Jim Kelley Welcome to the forum!

Sometimes the hardest post is the first one and you did that. Take your time to read and learn about the site, it is pretty user friendly and there is a lot of information in the introduction section to assist new members. I hope you find this place beneficial to your healing.

Hi @Jim Kelley and welcome.
I too have Complex PTSD and remember the feeling of being overwhelmed soon after being diagnosed. It does get easier. The more you understand about the condition the greater you are able to take back control. Good luck.
