Yes, flash drives are removable media.

You can do try getting into the BIOS (boot menu) which should let you setup which order you want the boot starting sequence. Default is usually removable media like usb and cd for recovery purposes.

The quickest solution is to not leave usb plugged in. The card you have must have some boot.sys file to trigger the confusion.

A good backup software and partition manager/rescue disk creator is from ACRONIS. You can download the free Western Digital Acronis True Image. As long as you have a western digital drive. Most computers use WD brand for drives.

Another company for backup and drive management is EaseUS they offer free tools for personal use.

I like Hewlett Packard. HP for short. My mom used to swear by Dells. I heard Acer was pretty good to...

Before my accident I repaired laptops down to chip level such as doing a reflows. ACER and HP were two laptop brands I worked on often that had buggy issues related to hardware/circuits.

Dells are solid. Nearly all the dells I worked on were for upgrades. I still have my mini 11" Dell D430 laptop and the battery still works! From 2009.

There is Dell Financial Services DFS online which sells corporate lease return units for cheap with warranty and free tech support. Everytime I did order from them they gave my accessories for free since it is used stuff to them.

We don't have any classes there. There is a guy who comes in now and then to fix my boss's computer...

My mom has this happen quite often so what I did was split her drive so that C drive was only system files and the "new" drive partition was for user files. In windows control panel the user profile location can be changed away from C drive.
If C drive gets infected or corrupt we can reinstall without losing her data.

Windows also have a migration feature that backup settings and files. It can be hard to find so u can press windows key and go to search box type migration or migrate....then select that this is OLD computer and then it will ask if u want to migrate by backup/restore...and where to save backup. Always save backups on different drive.

For rescue and system file repair from virus for free I like Kapersky products.

It is always handy to make a rescue USB that has key system files for repair when computer fails to boot into windows or stuck.

Kapersky is easy to use and repair along with having the ability to scan files and boot records for germies.

:roflmao: Soooo... think 90s & think DOS & think teenager writing his first bit of partition code, so he could keep his sisters and parents from finding his porn on “the family” computer... :roflmao:

My brother accidentally created a virus which partitioned our hard drive every time it was booted up, until every single file on the hard drive was partitioned in its own “happy” little isolation zone.

Yep. I DID say virus!

Because somehow this little bit of instruction copied itself onto every disc used, and into every email sent, and any IMB compatible who received this instruction starts madly following it!

To. This. Day. Anyone says the word “partition” and there are 5 of us who go all  Noooooooooo! Don’t dooooo it!!!

(Despite the fact that) Partitioning hard drives is a totally reasonable & logical thing to do.

It’s just this knee jerk response from MONTHS of “the f*ck is wrong with this thing? Sigh. Fine reboot. Aieeee. Now it’s worse!” :O_o:

My parents still don’t know why he wanted to partition the hard drive in the first place! :hilarious:

(It was because of his floppy disc, mom. He wanted it to be a hard drive. // That makes no sense... WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING???)

Thanks for making me laugh.
Ahh the DOS and diskette days where adult content fitted on 1.4mb or 20 floppies in RAR archive that needed to be unzipped to make whole.

That reminds me how I dont judge when people had me do data recovery and I pulled up the "deleted goodies".

I am screwing around with my integrated webcam and it won't work. I don't use it but I got it to turn on a few months ago and I can't remember what I did. I have been 3 days reading sh*t about it online and pulling off the laptop screen bezel and unplugging it and stuff. There is an issue with the driver. I just can't get the computer to see it at all. It ghosts when I put in a particular driver, meaning it appears as 'hidden' in device manager. Total pain in the ass. The computer is only about a year old. I want it to work. Reading the support posts from the Dell reps makes me want to puke. They end mostly (and it's not an uncommon problem) with no resolution. I refuse to call tech support and talk to foreigners who don't have the command of English required for a conversation about a technical issue. I'll never buy anything made by Dell ever again. The money they get for elevated support (business class,) which includes speaking with their tech support reps stateside, is outrageous. I wish I could remember how I fixed it last time lol. I'm going to yank it out of there if I can figure out a hardware test? I have a feeling there is nothing wrong with it but I'm not 100%? Plus it's so common a problem. I just feel like the windows drivers don't work. I have to figure out who actually made it.

Can you attach another webcam and see if that works before you rip out the one you have? Does that make sense? Idk..

I am having an issue with my laptop after a major Windows update.. I hate it when this happens. Everything was working and now... not and I don't know how to fix it except to roll back the updates. Dam...

I clicked on my preferred web browser and MS Edge popped up instead! I x'ed it out and tried my preferred one again, at which time it did come up instead of MS Edge, thank goodness. What the... ?
