Confrontation With Neighbors Causing Major Anxiety

Thanks so much to all of you for your support. It really is much needed ;o)

As many of you have stated, my main concern is that a child (even an adult) will get attacked. We have our granddaughters over here frequently. They "used" to play with this neighbors youngest son. Anyway, my gut says this dog (which was admittedly picked up as an emaciated stray in a campground) is a danger and must be gotten rid of.

My husband called animal control this morning to file a complaint. As it was a "dog fight" I seriously doubt that they will be forced to put the dog down, probably only told they must keep it locked up. At least now there is a record on the dog so that if something occurs in the future there is a history to go on. My true hope is that they have already gotten rid of the dog, but if they did, why wouldn't they have answered the question?

We were willing to let the vet bill go, but because of their attitude have decided to take them to court. It really isn't so much the money, it's about their attitude of not taking responsibility.

We really didn't want it to come to this, but feel we have to do something.

Interestingly enough, I thought the level of my anxiety was because of my PTSD. Turns out my husband's anxiety is just as high. He said his heart was pounding for hours after the conversation he had with them and still does when he thinks about it. I don't know why, but that makes me feel better. My T had told me that my initial reaction was normal under the circumstances, that most people would react the way I did. He also said that I did a good job in standing up for what is right. I guess now I believe that is true! I'm still anxious, but at least I know it's normal, HA!

Thanks again everyone :inlove:

...and the fact you were going to let the vet bill go shows what wonderful people you are!

But responsible people would have already made arrangements to cover their own messes.

So, when dealing with them...it's good you're giving them a chance to learn from this relatively small 'mess' and hopeful be 'teachable' before they wind up with a GIANT human tragedy.

By holding them accountable, you are likely saving them from FAR WORSE down the road.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! :>

Isn't it nice when you're having 'normal' anxiety instead of 'PTSD anxiety'? If it's any help, I fully support your actions and hope that the dog is remanded to rehabilitation (they do that here - I am NOT being sarcastic) if they still have it.
