Copyright Infringement Reminder

Also, on thinking about this... the copyright information I posted a link to is free - you just have to credit the author as stated at the bottom of his page. I feel 'free' can still be misleading. I can't think of what the right word is for 'not protected/covered by copyright' right now.

I have started deleting photos execept for the ones that I took myself. I don't deal well with stress!

There are some that I can't delete, it won't let me, but not too many

I had fully intended sitting at the computer while my car was in the shop today! As I wanted to search how is the correct and proper way. So much for the universe today! I am off to the ocean for a few days and if we can see through the gray skies I will send some photo's.

I am afraid to even use clip art that I own at this point. I thought it might be a good alternative. As well as card programs I own and paid for.

I still believe as in the case of Napster, they were taking money away from the artists that published the songs, and everyone working off royalties. I pc'd the gal that I thought might have some insight for us. She has not responded.

I am not trying to go against the rules or laws, or any ones opinions. I am trying to find things we can legally use. Hugs to all who are suffering the blues and lack of pictures. Whitney

If you find a photo on a US federal website, it is public domain, as per an article I read just now. It also talked about the fact that a photo or drawing doesn't have to have a copyright notice on it to protect it. RedBubble and Flickr photos and drawings belong to the person who originated the work - so you'd have to ask permission from those artists. Many photos you find on Google are from Flickr or RedBubble.

If you find something on one of those sites that you want to use, you can always write to the artist and ask permission to use their image.

I'm going to email my friend who is a lawyer and ask him if he knows of easier ways to detect copyright on internet images. He's not a copyright specialist, so he might not know either.

"Even attornies are not up to clarification regarding internet law"

Rule # 1: Anthony has posted the best advice.

Rule # 2: Items clearly marked public domain are not (c) protected. To protect yourself include where you acquired the image.

Rule # 3: Free image sites. To protect yourself include where you acquired the image.

Safest sites to use are those that you register with to use their images. When in question ask for permission to copy!

Read the policy of each site for the rules. The Forum is not responsible for members actions.

Whitney should we be deleting the images that are copy righted? I am feeling really nervous about this whole thing. Thank you for doing the research on this.

Here's another helpful hint I learned for my blog for summer school. If the illustrator has been dead for a really long time (I think it's fifty years?) it's in the public domain, (like Tenniel's illustrations for Alice in Wonderland.)
