Cortisone Injection - Psych Side Effects

It could have gone the other direction

^^Oh wow - my psydoc just contacted me and said I could have gone way, way in the opposite direction into mania..

It seems my brain has elected to go the low road...

At least I know what I am dealing with. They are still working out the dosage... my gp is at home and doesn't want to give me the wrong advice until she's accessed my notes.

My doc asked about mania as well, as some do go the manic direction. I only experienced crashes, I didn’t go in the upward direction.

I was in a loooooow dose of inhaled steroids (from what I gather, some kids took 4x my dose) and it took 2-3 weeks before the mood crashes stopped.

Sadly you just have to ride it out. :-(

I'm just emerging from the hang-over from this injection. :) It really did make me slide sideways and I can actually feel it's effect lessen each few days.

Never again!!

My sleeping is improving - if I do a lot of exercise and stay to a rigid routine.. horribly boring.

steroids pretty much interfered with my entire life a couple years ago. I knew that they can be very activating, so a few days of ptsd symptoms being amplified times 10 I asked my psych dr-- he advised me to stop taking my regular meds as the meds I took reved me up, so the combo was bad. The psych dr also said that steriod withdrawal, the period of time that the activating ingredients can take to leave your body is over a month up to two months. My regular dr told me the steroids were most likely the culprit that amped into crazy land. My regular dr said he himself can't take or handle steroids as they cause him emotional problems, too.

Several years ago I had an injection and within a couple hours was exhausted. Then about 5 hours later a friend became very rude and confrontational about something that didn't concern her while I was driving in heaving city traffic. I stewed that night and the next day kind of told her off. Prednisone makes me tearful and angry....much worse

Hi @blackemerald1
Hope it all starts settling soon. Has someone really looked at the way you use your muscles and body? Not sure where it is you have it but that can affect it greatly. The other thing I find with my hip area is to wear very tight elasticated leggings can support that area a bit. I'm assuming you are already doing anti inflammatory gel.

Thanks @Abstract - I appreciate your help :)

I am using gel packs that I freeze and apply four to five times a day and over-night. I use a anti-inflammatory gel that I rub in. (it's my hip) I take some paracetamol several times within 24 hours each day. I wear exercise wear a lot.. mainly bc I seem to be doing exercise all bloody day.. lol..

I saw a Exercise Physiotherapist who was excellent. I've just had a CT scan on my back. It's f*cked too. I thought it was, just not how much so.. now. Getting older isn't fun is it?

I have put my body through a lot of trauma.. I shouldn't be so dam surprised. I feel like it's betraying me really which is just ridiculous. First my mind and another disability that I have to accommodate and now my hip and back.. sigh..

My doctor wants me to see a neuro-surgeon and I just absolutely refuse to do that.. no way am I getting surgery. :wtf:

The Exercise Physio has given me a intensive exercise regime to follow.. yoga, Pilates, swimming, stretching and adjustment of the amount of walking I have been doing and some other stuff too. It's okay - I can do it. I mean I must do it because I have to beat this and work really hard to get relief. So the pay off is big :)

You are doing so well! Credit to you. What I find is that one has to be consistent and a bit patient as progress often doesnt happen straight away. I also try to note what is happening and keep tabs of a my symptoms. Sometimes professionals have given me excellent advice and other times I have found that it is doing the opposite than the result intended. I have 2 more conditions and find the interaction between these is often a bit quirky. I have had to educate myself to a high level to check that what I am being told is the best solution. Will also say a good mattress is worth its weight in gold. Good luck. Hope you find something that helps this. Thinking of you.
