Could Be A Reaction To Being Put Under??

I had a test Friday where they put me under. I had let them know that in the recent past I've had some issues so that they would not put me too far under and they didn't because I woke up in the procedure room - ummm, not great.

Since then I have felt extremely irritable and short tempered, not to mention a part from husband. He is familiar with this and is good about not letting anything escalate - thank God because I feel like I could go into an all out RAGE if provoked :( .

I was just reading about the Dragon Brain and saw the video and of course related.

I'm not sure what to do except to steer clear of my husband???
This happened the last time they did the endoscope.

I really hate this crap!

Could it be that our brain chemistry does react this much? I'm just not sure.

I had surgery a few months ago and relapsed after. I was told by my Dr that it was the meds from the anaesthetic and the pain relief. It makes you relax and then when it wears off, has the opposite effect.
I hope that all is ok with ur stomach!

Thank you so much Timetorecover. I do feel better today. I had a severe flashback yesterday and after having rode that wave to shore and then taken a nap I woke up feeling a bit more grounded but it WAS brutal.

It makes sense that it maybe being too relaxed that my memories flood back with vengeance. I have been in the process of working on this stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Anesthesia and sedation has strange effects on everyone. Unfortunately, they can last for days even after the procedure is over. Our body chemistry is so complex and each one of us is an individual, so there can be huge variances.

I've seen it in myself over the past few weeks. I understand about waking up as they cannot seem to get the right amount of sedation to keep me at the level of unconsciousness most patients maintain. Never any pain, but it kind of freaks the staff out. But man, the sedation hits later and I just seem to sleep for a day or two randomly. Not great for maintaining a healthy sleep cycle.:(

You've had a lot of physical things going on too. Give yourself a chance to rest and the freedom to just "be" while this all works out of your system.

Hoping you are on the mend and wishing you much peace today.

Post surgery last November, I was not myself for a few days... In my case, they'd sent me home with a medications list of everything they'd given me (because of my allergies)... and I did find one drug that had side effects like what I experienced. I did chalk it up to a med side effect.

It must be very tricky to get the sedation just right. Too much and you could die, too little and you could wake up. The heart must be sedated as well usually to minimize blood flow so waking up and freaking out could be a very very bad thing. I would never want to experience waking up paralyzed during a major surgery either but staying calm even if it's just you inside your mind, could help prevent complications..

It all seems like it would be terrifying though, I would stick to being sedated with potent benzos. This way even if you did wake up you probably wouldn't be as scared. Even if you were freaked out, the likelihood of remembering the events at proper dosing would be quite small. I find more commonly used sedatives that are cheaper are just as dangerous when it comes to complications. Might as well go for a drug that is also anti anxiety and likely to not ever remember the event. You have to weigh your options though, the pain has to be handled in some way too.
