Sheila an abbreviation such as EMDR would be considered acceptable on this forum as it is a common treatment for PTSD.

We are now however encouraging members to post like: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)... and then continuing using the acronym throughout that post (not thread).

You will find if you type an acronym into Google you may easily find it however abbreviations not so and therefore discouraged as much as text (SMS) speak.

All the posts above (including yours Sheila) highlight the need for the changes we are requesting from members as there are no text limitations requiring the use of abbreviations.

The reason I posted here in Chit Chat is that I sometimes don't get aware of news in 'Announcements' once it's gone from the list of posts on the 'Home' tab. I do not really remember to check 'Announcements' regularly for news, and the announcements are also not sent by PM to members (which is not criticism or anything, just a fact, i.e. they can be missed).
Perhaps you can raise this at the Help Desk as I believe it to be a common problem especially if you've been away for a few days and there are lots of posts under 'What's New'.....

Ah Nicolette, I see somewhat.

My therapist does not tell me what kind(s) of therapy she uses on me, nor does she explain any therapies in general, so I was not familiar with the term.

Now when you say: continuing using the acronym throughout that post (not thread), does that mean that each time someone uses it in a reply in that thread, they need to elaborate on it again, or is it then to be understood on its own? This rule is all new to me as of today, that is why I ask.

I have the same issue at times and I'm a native American English speaker. I often get confused by SI. Sometimes it seems to be used for Suicide Ideation(sorry for spelling) and sometimes it is for Self Injury. Having it first spelled out and then the initials seems like a great idea to me. No misunderstandings.

Though, I think PTSD is a given one we should really all know. Still I don't know what C-PTSD means. I'll ask that on the ask Anthony thread.

Thanks for bringing this up Primeno.

Sheila the problem is you can post directly under a post however it could end up on a new page so use common sense and try and avoid acronyms and abbreviations.
