Curved Ball - What's A Review?

When we are under new stress, often our older patterns of coping slip back in and our healthier behaviors & successes seem to be forgotten as old feelings of shame and abandonment come up.

A review by a therapist is not a negative term, nor is punitive. It is simply a type of grounding session where you're given a break from trying to work on any new traumas. It also is to help a patient remember how far they have come, that they have many new skills and resources for coping now, and reinforce awareness of your whole, healing self.

It's a 'neutral comforting space' which may used whenever a client is experiencing challenging stressors in the present to prevent regression into less helpful coping mechanisms.

You're dealing with a good therapist when they know when not to push.

Well, maybe it's a perfect time to have her input then- I'll bet she can help you see progress that you might be overlooking. I hope you give yourself the opportunity to pair with her and build yourself up, and to feel a sense of control, about therapy, if not work, in terms of going after your goals and seeing how powerful your commitment to healing is. Best,

Leah
