I read that what appears to be depression with a ptsd sufferer, is really boiled down to anxiety. So when I found out the psychiatrist thought my husband needed anti depressants, it made me curious if that was the right kind of meds. Are anti anxiety meds the better option or does it vary from person to person? is depression in a sufferer caused by stress/anxiety or does that also vary from person to person? Are these silly questions?

Hi Mrs T.

Antidepressants are often used to treat anxiety. In particular, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are typically used as the first choice of medications to address anxiety.

Hi Mrs T,

Is it possible that your husband might have depression as well as PTSD?
I am taking an antidepressant called Lexapro. I haven't been on it for very long but it's to treat my major depression and anxiety problems. From what I know it doesn't target PTSD but maybe Zoloft does.
