Depression symptom: Loss of interest

in my own case, i believe i my loss of interest has two causes.

1) i recognize the interest as a psych symptom and become more interested in healing than maintaining status quo.
2) tastes change.
 
I think for me, it's a sense of hopelessness and fear that keep me stuck and unable to do the things I want.
It's also draining and takes energy to be depressed. Your whole body is involved in it. So trying to find motivation seems counter intuitive.
 
It's like your brain is in self preservation mode and anything beyond the bare minimum to survive becomes overwhelming (or at least, thats how it looks for me on the outside looking after others with depression)

You like cooking but thats too many processes so you resort to toast and convenience food

You love the outdoors but it's unpredictable, you might see people you can't face and you have to wash/ dress which is too much so you just stay inside

You like reading but the words swim as your concentration goes so you just stare into space instead.
 
Yeah, depression just sucks any enjoyment from everything.
I try to lower my expectations to how will I feel after doing something. My brain isn't able to feel strong emotions so everything feels meh. For now I just focus on small bits of feeling pleasant I can get from simple things. According to my T, I'll need to deal with emotions from trauma and unlock them to gain ability to feel.
