I shake externally and internally - sometimes when triggered - often when under EXTREME stress or when I am at that almost breaking down point. I have CPTSD.

I usually shake internally but when faced with extremes in stress (like a confrontation or a bad trigger) I find my hands tremor - it annoys me. Used to be normal response to an adrenalin dump when i was working but now, it happens with alot less stress than a 'bad call'.

External for my bf. The very first time I saw that was right after we had sex for the first time. I had never seen that before but at the time I thought boy this guy is REALLY into me....LOL.

Too funny now that I think back, turned out it was ptsd. I've since found out any stress good or bad can cause his shakes.

I've been shaking a lot, off and on all day long. It seems to be getting worse. I have more external shakes. I've almost always had the startle thing, it comes and goes. I have to sit with my back to the wall.

i was prescribed atenolol (it is a beta blocker used for people with heart problems) it helped my shaking a lot, when this first started happening. I haven't used it in a while but it does help. I also have a cousin with PTSD and she shakes too, she finds acupuncture helpful. The shaking made me feel so totally out of control.
I think i would rather have hot flashes, my mother just says get on with your life..stop feeling sorry for yourself..Ya I love this life. Sorry, i am having a HUGE poor me day, well week.
Take care everyone.

Atenolol rocks! My MD started me on this just a few months ago and it has helped a lot. I was very skeptical at first, but this past week I have been taking it every day as a preventative measure and have noticed a much more stable attitude and reduced need for colonzepam. I also do not get dizzy as much and react better even when triggered. I wonder how many others have had this work?

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but for anyone who takes Wellbutrin, one of the side-effects is fine tremors. Mine got to the point where I was having trouble performing fine motor skills like writing and typing. My psych changed my prescription and I still tremor, but it isn't nearly as bad. I also think it could have to do with my C-PTSD and GAD. I shake and go cold when I'm anxious.

I take Propanolol when I know I'm going into a situation where I will panic.

Propanolol is a beta blocker so it doesn't drug you up or make you stoned....it does stop the shakes and the hypervenilating (I tend to hyperventilate) and it's not addictive in any way.

I shake externally, but this is something new for me. When I am about to go into panic mode (before a panic attack) I start to shake. Like I said before, this is something new to me as I have only started shaking within the last few months. Oh, and I have PTSD

eta

I have been using atenolol for ten years now... I asked the pharmacist in the phospital about why propranolol was prescribed more often for PTSD and he said it was solely b/c it was one of the first beta blockers so there is more evidence for its efficacy. However, atenolol works just as well and has the benefit of once a day dosing whereas propranolol must be taken multiple times a day due to its short half life.

Rarely internally, but now. Mostly, I shake externally but I do not notice this myself. I say I feel OK when hypervigilant and sharp. And that's OK even if I am shaking.

I have never used the word internally when it comes to shaking, but I do it all the time. I have been shaking internally for many years now, and with PTSD it has gotten much worse. And I also shake externally quite often, when I am stressed or feeling unstable than I shake all the time.

I think it is really stressful to shake all the time. I think the only time I don't shake is when I am sleeping, which is why I need my sleep so much.

CPTSD - I shake internally after an event of any sorts, it is a sign of the anxiety that i am going through. But I do not notice it until afterwards how bad the anxiety was until I get the shakes.
