Does anyone get triggered by the news and world events?

Only everyday. Ugh! We don't watch the news but regular tv is just as bad. Not to mention all the commercials about poverty, starvation, animal abuse and veteran charities and suicides. J made a comment tonight while we were watching.... "There shouldn't be so much devastation in the world Why do so many people have guns?"

I keep up on current events and keep things to myself.

Hugs!

It terrified me it seems impossible to find safety with such negative loops occurring

Sending love I nearly lost it before while in public when the TV they had on showed animal abuse

Very early on, my T asked me to please limit my news intake. I barely watch it anymore. During my T’s time away this summer, I decided to turn it on and the first news story was that they were searching for a now identified serial killer in my town. Luckily, he was caught the next day.

Absolutely I do. I don't have tv or radio and no newspapers. I don't do social media platforms either & limit myself to one GB of data on this not-so-smart phone and use it only for browsing books, things I need/want to know and this forum.

Was a mess at the end of yesterday as clever me thought it was a good idea to read the entire newspaper on the way the home. Small conscious doses I am fine with, unless a trigger gets me.

Yes. There isn't anyone I know with PTSD who doesn't get triggered by the news. I get triggered by the mass shootings the most. But because of my job, I still have to watch the news. So I watch it, and then if my feelings get too intense, I take a break. I also find that reading the news is better than watching the news. You can skip over certain details and paragraphs or not click on certain headlines.

No, it should really be called The Bad News because there isn't a whole lot of good news in there. They just hyperfocus in on the bad events in the world and ignore the good ones, giving an impression to viewers that the world is a dark and unsafe place. Selling people fear.

Yes! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

Recently, I've gotten triggered by school shootings and that poor boy who was murdered in the Bronx. I can't help feeling like the world is a scary place and it's hopeless for me and my loved ones. I also tend to go over scenarios of something awful happening to me or someone I love and panic over it.

I know it's good to keep up with the news, but it can be so distressing at times.
