E-cigarettes / Vaporizers In The Uk

Hey everybody, I'm looking for some information about smoking alternatives, particularly ones that are readily available and relatively cheap in the UK.

Some back story, Tater smokes...a lot. 2 packs a day of Lambert and Butler silver. He complains about the cost and has considered (and bought) just about everything he needs to roll his own. Rolling doesn't have all the chemicals, but there's no filter which means more tar. I'm much more concerned with the hazards to his health, but IF vaping is equal or less than the cost of his current habit, then maybe I could convince him to give that a try instead.

Problem is, there are tons of options out there and all the research I've done has landed me no closer to a decision about what vaporizer brand, model, or style to gift him with, except maybe a pen in black or chrome - something masculine and unassuming. Then again, since he does smoke often, perhaps a bigger tank would be better. This is made even tougher since it's probably a different market and brands in the UK. Seems from the website that Tesco carries 4 brands: Elites, Vapestick, 10 Motives, and Nicolites. I suppose one of those would be best as I know for sure he can get refills should he decide to make the switch.

Then add in products from the UK Ebay site...forget it!

Perhaps I should just buy him a cheap starter kit with a few different fluid choices and if he finds them acceptable he can upgrade himself to a different one that better meets his needs.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

This is the one I got a couple months ago (and accidentally quit smoking on! Yikes. Lol. I actually like vaping better than smoking. Meant to only cut down on cost, had to deliberately start smoking again because I was being a proper bitch/symptoms went sideways. But I've switched from 2 packs a day to about half a pack). There are fancier versions, that let you control how much vapor is produced, but I just got the basic one.

Did some research on juice... That's all experimenting on what you like... But in theory the thicker the liquid / the better for you they tend to be (also the more expensive). Switching from 2 packs a day of reds, I use 12mg juice (0 3 6 9 12 24 36 available). This is my fav so far: :)

Thanks, @FridayJones . Very helpful! That does seem like a nice one to start off with and the price is not bad at all. I've crunched some numbers and think he should save around $25 a week, at least. $1300 a year ain't pocket change! That's me guesstimating how much juice he'd go through, of course.

I've been giving it some thought and I think now that I've done some research and have come up with good options, instead of buying without his knowledge and input, I'll just tell him what I've found and that I'd like to buy him one. That way, he gets what he wants and hopefully I don't come across as a nag.

I've never said anything to him about his smoking. He knows I don't love it, cause I don't want him stroking out on me, but I admit, even I bought him a carton at the airport when I went over, much cheaper of course. He requested them, but said I didn't have to if it made me uncomfortable. I said "If you're gonna smoke anyway, you might as well do it for half off." And I may have had him blow smoke rings for me. Hahaha! So stupid. LOL

Anyway, I figure we all have vices and are doing things that can and may shorten our lifespans. I'm overweight, but fixing that. He smokes, so how about using a safer apparatus? I'd like to be together for a while longer. ;)

I got Elite from Tesco's. It was disgusting. I used it once then threw it away - but I have never smoked another real cigarette either. That is nearly 2 years ago now.

It really is personal choice I am afraid.

I like this idea tons. :D

I get seriously weird about suprises, tho... Can't stand them. Even good surprises. People think I'm joking when I ask them to tell me what my presents are so I can actually be happy when I open them instead of half dealing with -hateful surprise- half my real reaction (happy, touched, thrilled, etc.).

Savings for me... Apx $60 per month (about 1 bottle a week) vs apx $500 per month = huge. Smokes are almost $10 a pack in my state, though. :wtf:

I don't know about e-cigs, but I started making my own. You can get filter paper tubes, which would cut down on the tar. I use the gold filters and tubes. It's like a light cigarette. You can also buy gold tobacco, which is lighter.

@hodge I'm glad to know there are filters available for that sort of thing!

@FridayJones fortunately he does love surprises. Hasn't had anyone (specially a female) care for him in a long, long time and I can tell he feels loved when he gets gifts...as well it should. He is so appreciative. There is usually a joke from him about it being a bomb though. LOL He loves it! :D

Oh, that is a HUGE savings! Congrats!

I'm excited for him to resurface from his current solitude so we can discuss this.
