I found this article interesting, and the comments sections even more interesting.

Please, if anyone knows studies, or images of the brain (before, after, and over time), and lay-explanations regarding normal verses ptsd activity, post it here.

I've only done some amateur investigations into the personality differences between intro/extroverts; and how psychological treatments can vastly affect the extreme ends of the spectrum. I think there should be different methods of initial treatment based on a person's natural character (similar to how there are studies being done on 'designer drugs' based on targeting specific areas of DNA).

These EEG studies could add another layer to this data. The normal brain activity for extreme personality types compared to ptsd affected individuals will give us more insight. I don't believe there needs to be a disorder for someone to form an extreme end personality. However, since our society only rewards conformists, it only seems as if the 'outliers' are unhealthy -- when they most likely are not.

I'd like to see more diversity acceptance, (rather than only platitude hype being touted, but not practiced).

Addition Edit: I took another look at the images, and I worry that the depth of the cross section isn't the same pre verses post scan image. Take a look at the perimeters -- you can see there is a layer depth difference by the differing perimeter shape, which can cause the 'lit up areas' to not be as visible if they took the picture at a more shallow or deeper depth.

There are lots of discussions on EEG / biofeedback / neurofeedback (pick a name).

I do question their use of SPECT and trying to isolate specific brain activity in PTSD with it, when to date the only imaging that has shown proven results for mapping PTSD brain activity is MEG.

Neurofeedback (EEG) does have results, but it isn't what they claim them to be. It is becoming more and more annoying with so many out claiming their treatment method is the solution, yet still methodologically the evidence continues to come back to the proven four treatments that help the majority across one or more of the treatments below, to quite a significant degree when combined with time versus individuality and trauma severity.

Media just don't help with this IMO. The better the bullshitter the more the media latch onto it. :cautious:
  1. Cognitive Trauma Therapy
  2. Prolonged Exposure Therapy
  3. Stress Inoculation Training (stress management techniques, mind / body relaxation)
  4. EMDR
None of them alone are the key to solving severe or complex trauma, though when used in combination the results to date continue to speak for themselves versus any other treatment on the market. When these fail though, or based on specific beliefs within individuality, other treatment options can be just as viable to a minority due to a belief alone (placebo effect).

I'm looking for actual studies, research papers, and the like, with easy, yet thorough, explanations of how and why it works or doesn't work. The discussions were nice to read. I'm not opposed to becoming a human lab rat -- I actually think I was born one (but, I have no proof). Well, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I look forward to reading your outcome from research. I did this some years ago as well on EEG... found some good information and some not so good information. I think like most therapies, it has a time and place.

I should add, I'm not looking for my own benefit. I'm researching because that is what I do. I put everything under the microscope and study all the intricate details. I'd rather literally be looking into a physical microscope at working brain tissue, but that isn't included in my security clearance.

Being unemployed lets me research anything I find interesting, and this is just the latest sparkely option to cross my path and fill in the gaps of time I call life.
