Emdr May Not Be For Me ?

I have posted on another thread about my first experience about EMDR, so didn't want to hijack that.
Yesterday ( after having a really bad week) I went to see my therapist and we discussed options.

Because of a recent incident of me meeting my abusive ex husband in my clinic, it has basically hit a reset button and has left me in an even higher level of hypervigilence, as he did go to prison for the injuries I received, and made a threat to kill me in the clinic a few weeks ago.

She thinks that trauma focused work may not be the way to go, as there are so many trauma's in my life to go through, and bringing alot of the past really hit me very hard, and is near on paralysing me.

I am really struggling to get the safe place mode, as I can't get images out of my head, as only a few weeks ago I stared the very man in the face who tried to kill me .

So before I can even start discussing everything that has happened since I was a small child, she is concerned that this is going to unravel me mentally and leave me in dangerous state, which she says has happened many times for some people who have suffered CPTSD

So rather than EMDR, she suggested CAT ( cognitive analytical therapy), which rather than going back to the past in details focus's on the present and how to cope.

Has anyone been considered for another treatment other than EMDR, just when I feel that I am ready to go and start EMDR .. another incident happens in the present, so I can't get to deal with the past, and that is her concern , as its now becoming a mountain of past and present trauma's merging with me being so hypervigilent I can't get to safe place base line.
Kate.

EMDR is not for me right now. I get thrown under too easily.

I'm in CBT. It seems to have helped.

I'm in no rush for EMDR, but I'll know when I'm ready.

Thanks for your replies, I am in CBT too, but incidents recently seemed to have ambushed the issues I was dealing with, I am glad that my therapist has noticed how I am reacting for my own health has said we shouldn't go down that route..
