This is a form of NLP, which this married couple devised based on NLP mixed with what they are trying to take from the science of EMDR. Whilst this has worked for you, NLP has no scientific or medical substance with trauma, other than a placebo effect, ie. you tried other things, didn't work, convinced yourself that this is the trick for you. Either or, it worked, and placebo treatments have as much validity for some as the majority... but NLP is not science, it is a coaching technique which fundamentals are based on communication improvement and ability to motivate, self esteem, etc. None of this has to do with trauma. This couple, named it in order to try and disguise a version of NLP around Shapiro's scientific notion and endorsed theories on EMDR.
Basically, this technique is playing with fire and cannot find any legitimacy outside placebo based on what I just read. Another couple of people trying to make a name for themselves within an expanding industry.
The plus though Froggie, is that it worked for you... and placebo treatments are proven to work... and it got you to open up and do something further with your own trauma.
Saying that, what worked for you and what could be considered any type of practicable option for a majority, that actually works for a majority, two different things.
NLP is big in Europe... not having a great time in other countries, as its quickly being demonstrated for what it is.... coaching, that's its limit. You can go do a four day course and be an NLP coach... that's how much science is involved in this, or psychology. Seriously... four days! My sister-in-law went and did one of these, then she thought she could solve all her sisters problems in a few sessions... because that's what they told her, and she believed them. It is a very good motivational technique, has great substance and foundation in business across the globe, except they pull the motivational part on people in training... then people, just like this couple who come up with this, decided to try and make their own off-shoot of a coaching based technique, trying to turn it into a trauma based technique. Sorry... wrong!
Motivation, self esteem building, etc, by itself can and will reduce traumatic memories... if the person is open to those approaches and believes in them, hence placebo effect. If you believe you are taking a sleeping tablet, for example, but are given a sugar tablet, it can have the exact same effect as the real thing, just from sugar, anywhere from 0% - 40% of the testing group.
