I tried that, KP, but the lamp (a panel) was too heavy for holding up in bed. And I do love the touchscreen, light adjustment, book covers and all about the Paperwhite! Now, if they had that Kindle "person reading under the tree" screen as the screensaver, I'd be even happier. :)

Does this mean that you have no problem at all reading with it at night without an additional lamp? Is it real easy on the eyes or do you have to concentrate? Do you need to have it on maximum brightness to be able to read in bed at night?
Correct. You actually turn the light down in darkness and up in daylight, for optimal results... All without eyes hurting.

I bought the original Kobo when it came out and I absolutely hated it. It's only good for reading ePub materials, even though it supports PDF files. As a student, I thought it would be great for bringing all of my course materials to class. Alas, not all PDFs are created equally, and I abandoned the idea after discovering that many of my history course documents would not zoom in to a legible size without being too wide to read without scrolling side-to-side.

I did, however, start using the Kobo software app on my laptop and iPhone 2 years ago, and I loved it. I used to read on my long bus commutes that way while I was living & attending school in British Columbia. I think that's the only reason why I gave Kobo a second chance when they unveiled the Vox, and I'm glad I did.

The Kobo Vox is the first colour touch screen tablet produced by Kobo, and it's built on an android platform. I enjoy using it for games and casual internet usage when I'm away from a computer just as much as I enjoy using it for its primary purpose - reading - and I take it everywhere. My only complaint, given that I'm willing to ignore certain deficits in the primitive web browser, is that I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put PDFs on it. It doesn't work the same way older models do. I have a few ebooks that were self-published by authors I know or acquired before ereaders and ePub editions were widely used, which are all simple PDF files, and now I can't put them on my favourite reader.

I've been using my Paperwhite for about a week now and have returned the basic Kindle. Love this one! I have it on either one or two for reading in a pitch-black room and don't need any light (i.e. lowest setting as you can't turn it off) during the day. The touchscreen is great; I just still haven't gotten used to "turn a page" by clicking on the screen instead of using the "buttons" the basic Kindle has. Last night I finally figured out how to hold it and be able to turn pages with the same hand. :) The best thing is it really doesn't hurt the eyes at all!

Orglethorp, I hope (and actually, I'd think so, too) you will find a way with the pdf files. There must be a way! Have you checked amazon customers' reviews? Those have proven to be very helpful to me with some first-hand user suggestions. Maybe that goes for the Kobo too?

I am about to take a bath this morning (all snowy outside, real nice and cold) and was looking forward to take a book I have been reading ('No Time to Wave Goodbye' by Jacquelyn Mitchard; sequel to 'The Deep End of the Ocean' (triggering: child abduction; but no violence in it per se) with me. Then I realized I couldn't take the Kindle into the bath tub! I really enjoy taking long baths and reading. Other than that though, I love the Kindle Paperwhite and don't leave the house without it anymore. Haven't dared yet to take it out while queuing up in the supermarket. People here would probably laugh at anyone doing that (seriously).

Re-kindle-ing this thread, lol.

I have started to read a book, I mean a normal paperback, and found myself not understanding a word (it's in English). Moved my index finger to highlight the word for the definition given in the dictionary that is included on the Kindle to pop up. Naturally, that didn't work! :D

Then realized that there were quite a few words I didn't know the meaning of (you could tell somewhat from the context but couldn't be too sure either). And that's when I really came to value the Kindle even more than I have! I love that feature of being able to just check the definition(s) of a word, including acronyms! It's so comfortable and I will learn some more words, plus no need to carry around several dictionaries, as usually not all words are listed in the same dictionary and if they are, it's so huge and heavy you don't want to carry it around. Acronyms are often missing as well.

So, I'm happy with the decision of having gotten a Kindle. Calibre has helped with saving a copy of the purchased books, too.

My husband bought me a tablet for Christmas. I've ordered a few books on it. I enjoy the fact that I can read late into the night without disturbing him. I like that I can get them instantly. There will still be books I will get from the library due to the cost of them, but, right now, I enjoy the convenience.

I've had my Kindle Paperwhite for a while now and have come across something I hope someone can help me find a solution to.

When I check my "notes and marks" and then click on one of them and end up in that spot in the book (let's say on page 29) and then close the Kindle cover (i.e. it goes on stand-by), and later want to continue to read in the same book, I get taken to page 29 again, instead of to the page I have really progressed to already (let's say page 45). I.e. the Kindle remembers the last page viewed in the book, in this example, one of my Highlights.

Is there a way how you can save the page you have last read and from where you would like to continue to read? I mean, other than using a bookmark and having to use the notes and marks menu to find it and go there? Is there some way to save it so that it won't get deleted once you have gone to another spot in the book?

This is difficult for me to explain, I hope what I mean is clear.

Thanks very much!

I understand what you mean prime-no, though don't know the answer to your question.

I have a Paperwhite too, and always click on the back button to take me back to the page I was on before I close it. This way I am ready to go again when I open it back up.
