Ptsd Book Club? Are There Avid Readers Here?

I'd be interested. I'm currently reading "No Comfort Zone", which is a PTSD related book, but not a self help type of thing.

Anthony, you should think about a Kindle if it takes that long. I get downloaded books within minutes. I always thought I'd be a "real book" loyalist, but I got a Kindle for Christmas, and love the thing.

Ella Enchanted. By far my favorite book. Probably, I identify too closely with her... because she MUST obey. And, because by always having to obey...she is sometimes susceptible to bullies and murderers. She's not allowed to tell her secret, and so finds clever ways around it... she even finds relief by being commanded to enjoy it.

It's a short, easy read. No trauma involved, but lots of related emotions. Great love story, great story of bad family life, but good friendships. Highly recommend.

(Don't watch the movie. They missed the whole point, entirely.)

Count me in. I am usually reading about 4 books at a time (dog training books at the moment... not book club stuff). No suggestion at the moment. I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain. Good book if you are a dog fan. Won't call it classic literature. Also finished Hunger Games series - a hard read for me. Too much trauma so I am going to skip the movie. It gave me enough nightmares.

Looking forward to this. Great idea, Anthony!!

I have an iPad already... which has the Kindle app, and I don't like e-readers as they hurt my eyes quickly after a short period, compared to reading a book itself. I already put long PDF's, studies, etc, onto my iPad for reading when out and about so I'm not cutting down tree's to print such things... and after reading one or two studies of 20 odd pages each, my eyes are usually burning.

Yes, I do agree though, they are a good device for instant delivery of your purchases. If the book was short, I may use that... ie. 150 or less. For long reads, I wouldn't even think about it as my eyes would be killing me looking at a screen that long.

I don't think many books should exceed 300 pages in a book club... IMO, as that would make them way too long for most people to read within busy lives and everything else that goes on.

Now I know this is a long list and few if any meet Book Club criteria, but these are the types of books I read and reference. And, others .

However, I am generally extremely open-minded to new, good things, so I can decide to enjoy almost any kind of other book that gets voted in. What anthony said about people in the book club likely becoming exposed to unfamiliar genres, I most definately will be one of these as I've only read maybe 3 books in my teen to adult life that were fiction.

Awkward lengthy list I know, :barefoot: but heck', I love these types of books. I'm just sharing their titles here, not recommending them, ...well all except for the first 3. :p For real though, the prices are likely too high, idk.

I need to concentrate on healing. But would like to recommend Illusions by Richard Bach which I constantly refer to. Will hopefully find the peace to read again..

These are not for the book club. Just thought I would mention some books by Frank McCourt. Second hand book stores stock them rather cheaply. "Angela's Ashes" (reminded me a lot of my childhood). "Teacher Man" and "Tis".

Frank McCourt didn't have his first book published till he was 64. There is hope for me yet!

Ah, that other book someone mentioned on this site somewhere, which I notated, is: The Journey from Abandonment to Healing: Turn the End of a Relationship into the Beginning of a New Life

Updated: Found... it was Gloria who mentioned it: [DLMURL]https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/threads/abandonment-issues-ugly-duckling-becomes-beautiful-swan.22863/[/DLMURL]

How do you 'private message' somebody on here? I don't have messenger or the likes of anything else that would do. I can start a conversation or leave it on your profile page i guess. What shall I do.
You need to post this question in the [DLMURL="https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/forums/help-desk.28/"]Help Desk[/DLMURL] Gamereign555 so you get an answer as it will get lost in here.
