Ptsd Book Club? Are There Avid Readers Here?

I will open a specific forum for it, and I guess the best way is to keep it simple, being people recommend the book they want to read, we vote on it, all go buy it, then read collectively as we agree upon.

Anthony, ...This is so, so, so f'n COOL. I am psyched for us to all get started! Excuse the language please, ;) it just somehow helps express my enthusiasm for this type of thing.

Interesting. !!!

Also, I most likely will actually complete a book before moving onto the next. If others are inclined like this it might push them through as well.

I'm in. I was just saying yesterday that I never read anymore. I love to read and have always devoured books but lately my concentration has sucked so I have let it go to the wayside. So this is perfect timing.

Don't forget to check out the local library!

Yes for sure check the library. If your library is part of a bigger complex then you can see how long you are on its waiting list, vs. buying it.

I think this will also help diversify many of us into different genres that we may not normally venue. As I said, I don't read anything outside of PTSD / psychology topics, as they tend to consume enough time, but I want to, but don't really know where to even start or what I like... so book club to me is an all-round solution to follow others and try something new.

How are the target books decided? Do we just go around to the members and do a drawing perhaps? Or is it based on whoever is in the circle next? How can we all agree on a book when its very likely the rest of us haven't read it? My money is on a drawing... Unless Anthony feels comfortable with telling us all what we are going to be reading next. I think we can narrow down the possible options into something more specific each time by doing a discussion or drawing on the genre and size of the book. Then a drawing or some order based on participation on the title of the book.

We can all mention books, randomly draw some out for a poll... vote on the poll, then we read the most picked and get rid of the poll. The first time round we need to vote on two... so we can all prepare for the second book ahead of time. Once we get into each book, we can already have decided on the next, allowing ordering time for everyone to have it.

I don't want to be the one to pick the books... as to my understanding, a book club collectively decides and agrees on the book as a majority.

We can even narrow it via two polls if needed... one, then the two most selected go to another 24hr poll... the highest vote wins and only takes 48hrs to allow everyone to have voted, 24hrs each poll.

Maybe the first order of business is for everyone who wants to participate, go look up a book to be introduced when I open the book club forum later today... that way we can get into a poll within 24+ hrs to begin ordering by close of this weekend.

If its short story / latest type release, then I most book shops should have that here, but anything older, book stores here are a near thing of the past and dying breed... hence Dymocks demise.

Anthony, if it would help, I'm happy for people to PM me a list of their fave books. I will put them in alphabetical order and give a rough idea of prices (the lower the better for me:tup:).

Then folk can vote on where to start.

I read mainly fiction. Nicholas Evans, Jane Green, Jilly Cooper and I read Jean Auel almost yearly. I also like Robin Cook, Clive Cussler etc. No Mills and Boon though  .
