Anthony, same goes then for other things, like how I had an unrealistic nightmare about my boss torturing me, and now I find I don't want to see him. So I should accept the irrational feelings as just that, and take care to actually go and see him and use the same techniques and realize that I can overcome the irrational fears. They usually have a small rational component or danger. For example, my supervisor could try to sabotage my career if he felt so inclinded. He has usually been helpful but he has a selfish side and would step on me to better himself for sure. But I needn't fear him, and he certainly would not torture me. So the fears are an Exaggeration of the real threat.
