(Anybody has a recipe for making vanilla milkshakes healthy as possible? Must include vanilla ice)
Bananas, yogurt, peanut butter is a favorite go-to of mine. Try searching for "smoothies" online.
I am a practical minded person who like to do things and do not know what to do about it.
Thing is, with a lot of things about PTSD, you can't actually do anything about it. You can't fix it. I know, this STINKS. A lot about PTSD and PTSD relationships is learning to endure, and learning to tolerate what we can't fix. While you strategize ways for him to have more healthy milkshakes, consider strategizing self care too. It's hard to see someone in pain and not able to do what others do.

I was on a protein shake diet for a good while. It got better, and sometimes it comes back again.

Mostly ones from recipes online or made up on my own, or in a pinch, I got ones from the store formulated for athletes or the elderly.

How are your own self care strategies going?

But how did you make sure to get enough vitamins?

Self care strategies? Err... err... err... is deciding to maybe get highlights in your hair a self care strategy?

If he is concerned about serious vitamin deficiencies, then I’d suggest a consult with a nutritionist or doctor. For moderate concern, he could take a multi vitamin. If he doesn’t like swallowing them, they make vitamin gummies now for adults.
If you are asking what I did, this is what I did:

In the end, I don’t think any recommendation is going to be very satisfying because at the end of the day, A liquid diet is not nutritionally the same as a more complete diet, you’ll still have to live with the reality that he is in pain enough that he isn’t eating the same kinds of foods as others, and you can’t change that reality, and it will continue to be understandably uncomfortable and hard for you as a supporter.

It certainly can be!

Not only will self care help you, but it will also model what self care can look like and how it can benefit someone. He may follow your lead better than you trying to push him to change his eating habits. To help somebody take care of themselves, it’s most effective to have your own robust self-care strategies.

*lol* No, the question is not how he gets enough vitamins. He is taking a supplement. I wondered how YOU got enough vitamins.

*lol* I just thought of vet following my lead and getting highlights in his hair. He wears them really short. That would look funny.

If you are not willing to engage in building up good self care, I’m not sure why you would expect him to improve his own self care - but to each their own.

Good luck to you in your efforts.

I have a friend who uses psyllium husks in various liquids that she consumes, mostly as a filler to keep cravings away, and she mentioned how important it is to remember to increase her water intake while doing so, or else she gets super bloated and miserable. She also had to reduce the amount of husks she used until her body became more used to them, gradually building up. Not sure how long he's been consuming them, so I hope that's helpful.

Did his doctor say he was malnutritioned or having medical issues because of his eating habits?

He said that his eating habits were not good in the long run... that they might have long term effects...
Fortunately he is healthy and can ge very happy about this but it is not good... otoh I think he won’t eat better just because I bother him.
Still has problems in the bathroom and the doctor said it was caused by his diet.
