Relationship Feeling Lost

My boyfriend is suffering from PTSD. He returned from deployment in July. He asked for space to work on himself when he got home so we took a break for 6 weeks. Things were hard when we first got back together and we even broke up again and got back together. Things are getting better and he has gotten a lot better since he got back. But one thing that I have noticed is that he can't handle when I'm mad at him and get emotional about it. He doesn't want to talk to me. He shuts down and is distant. It's really hard because I feel like I can't talk to him when I'm upset with him about something. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Wait until you've gotten control of your temper to talk with him.

This is a HouseRule at mine. No f*cking reason to come guns blazing at someone, unless you're trying to hurt them. If it's a real problem? It will still be a real problem once you've calmed down and can talk rationally about something.

Whomever said, "don't go to bed angry"....was never in a relationship with a PTSD sufferer.

Sometimes gaining our cool, with a little sleep, can help make things a bit more clear in the morning. Actually, it's good advice for any relationship, struggles or not.

You also have to pick your battles. Make sure what you're upset about is going to be worth a "thing."

It doesn't take much for my vet to feel either worthless or attacked when confronted. It doesn't matter what kind of mood he or I am in. It's not going to end well a lot of the time.

If it is a big deal, sure, he needs to know. If it is something small, you got to ask yourself if it's worth it.
