Welcome, BD. I just joined myself. I think I've had PTSD since I was about 4 or 5 years old and didn't even know it. When I was a teenager I knew I was messed up but was too afraid to get help; thought they'd lock me up for good. I was recently told I had it and just read the Wikipedia article on PTSD. I'm amazed at how accurately it describes me. If I'd have gotten help earlier my life may have turned out better. Water under the bridge now. Kind of bittersweet for me at least, being one of "those" but finally getting some answers and maybe some hope for the future. God bless,

PS. Sorry if was ragging, my emotions are still a little high after reading that article. I truly wish you all the best. I wanted to thank you and all your comrades in law enforcement for putting yourselves in harm's way so others can live safe and peaceful lives. Thanks for everything and I wish you all the best.

Hi there. Why does the States have to be so much of a gun culture, I've seen on the news many times about maniacs shooting up schools and such.
Here in the UK the gun laws are very strict. Only the Police, Armed Forces and Farmers are allowed to have guns, and people who need them for their work like Gamekeepers and such. But unfortunately the criminals are getting their hands on Uzis and AK47s now in the big cities like London and Manchester.
I've been in the line of fire many times in Northern Ireland, 1st Gulf War and Bosnia, when I served in the Army. And I've used my weapon on many occaisions but that was my job.

BD.. I am a very recent, former police dispatcher. I was dispatching one of my friends/officers to a call then ended up costing him his life. I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. I was recently diagnosed with PTSD stemming from that incident and am struggling with that. I was crying after reading your entry, I wish my friend was still here and able to talk to me about his experience. Hang in there, as I am trying also. Thank you.
